Cassadaga Country Club

Tim Bulger and Jim Henderson are 2018 Cassadaga Country Club Member Guest Champions. It is their third championship and first since 2008. The 36 hole two day tournament was held June 30 and July 1.

The initial 18 holes was a modified alternate shot format with handicap. Bulger and Henderson led the field with a net 62. Their closest challengers were the teams of Chris MacKrell-Fred Stern tied with Scott Johnson-Scott Jagoda at net 63. Rod Lind and Darren Mangine were also in contention with a net 65.

The second day format was best ball with handicap. The team of Tim Lerow-Sean Fenton and the team of Chip White-Tom Olson led the second day scores with net 60. Bulger-Henderson shot 61. Defending champions Mike and Tim Lancaster shot net 62 along with Tyler Lerow and Nick Krupa.

Bulger and Henderson had an overall total of 123 to win the championship. MacKrell-Stern finished in second with 127. Third place was won by Lerow-Fenton. To round out the top five Johnson-Jagoda tied with Dick Frost and Dave Willebrandt at 129.

Tuesday Night Men’s Golf League (July 11) — Brenton Wilcox 31, Steve Wintersteen 35, Tim Bulger 36, Scott Jagoda 36, Todd Fenton 38, Dick Frost 38, Rod Lind 38, Scott Nuccio 38, Fred Chamberlin 40, Mike Lancaster 40. Closest to the pin: Jeff House, No. 15. Skins: Steve Wintersteen (No. 12 – birdie and No. 13 – birdie), Brenton Wilcox (No. 14 – eagle) and Fred Chamberlin (No. 15 – birdie).

The Bella’s Women’s League (July 11) — The game of the week, “the odd holes,” saw Debbie Mancuso take first place with a birdie on hole 9, while second place went to Mary Haight and third place to Sue Grace. The next league game will be played on Wednesday, July 18, with name draw at 9:30 a.m. and tee offs beginning at 10 a.m. All skill levels are welcome, join anytime. Cassadaga Valley Youth Soccer

(July 10) — (U-6) King Kone beat Lula Roe w/Sarah Gilbert 6-2. Scoring for King Kone was Hunter Edson with five goals and Caden Lacki with one goal. Scoring for Lula Roe was Levi Hall and Donald Easton.

Shur Fine had the victory over Storer’s Cyclones, 4-2. Scoring for Shur Fine were Conner Nickerson, Daniel Russell, Lydia Petry and Aryanna Abram. Simon Lawson and Dominic Armstrong scored for Storer’s.

(U-8) Homestead Stables had the victory over Barney’s Hoof Trimming, 4-3. Scoring for Homestead Stables was Brody Hawkins with three goals and Logan Adams with one goal. Scoring for Barney’s Hoof Trimming was Ben Petry, Makenzie Lahnen and Taylor Lahnen.

Jamestown Macadam defeated Park Church, 3-2. Scoring for Jamestown Macadam was Kristyn McVey with two goals and Quinn Johnson with one goal. Scoring for Park Church was Mason Hinton and Madison Hinton.

(U-11) KCR Enterprises won over Bethany Camp, 1-0. Scoring for KCR was Riley Jennings (assist Gavin Penhollow). Goalies for KCR for the shutout were Aaron Steen, Belle Neail, Payton Meder and Summer Cieplinski.

Library Bookworms topped SKM, 3-1. Scoring for Library Bookworms were Breonna Hopkins (Nevaeh Hebner), Jakob Wilson (assist Wyatt Rothwell) and Brianna Myers. Hailey Anderson (assist Jackson Hattaway) scored for SKM.

(U-16) Southern Tier Land Surveying tied Gerry Free Methodist Church 2-2. Scoring for Southern Tier Land Surveying was Sarah Meder (Johnathon Brockelbank assist) and Gregory Holmberg. Scoring for Gerry Free Methodist Church was Alex Reynolds and Sarah Rose Elder (Noah Richner, assist) each with one goal for the tie.

MK Mustangs won over Southern Chautauqua Federal Credit, 5-1. Scoring for MK Mustangs was Jared Dorman with two goals, Jeramiah Brewer, Natalie Dossey and Hayden Coulcher-Hobbs. Scoring for Southern Chautauqua FCU was Steven Biggers.

First Ward Falcons softball tourney starts Friday

The 43rd annual First Ward Falcon Club Men’s Fastpitch Tournament will begin Friday night, July 13 at Promenschenkel Stadium with the first game starting at 6 p.m. The tournament will consist of 10 teams this year, including four local teams from Dunkirk and Westfield. The championship game is scheduled for Sunday at 2:30 p.m. There will be food stands throughout the weekend, and a chicken barbecue will be held on Sunday to benefit the Boy’s and Girl’s Club in Dunkirk. The top eight teams make the single elimination playoff, with games beginning at 9 a.m. at Promenschenkel Stadium and School No. 7. An updated schedule, as well as results from the tournament, will be printed in the weekend editions of the OBSERVER.

Gary Tripp Memorial Golf Tourney August 25

The Tenth and Final Gary Tripp Memorial Golf Tournament (GTMGT) plans are progressing and on the First Tee. The 2018 tournament is set for Saturday, August 25 at the Vineyards golf courses in Fredonia. Registration starts at 9 a.m. The shotgun start is at 10 a.m.

The registration fee of $65 per golfer includes food on the course and dinner at the Kosciuszko Club and a golfer’s gift.

The deadline to sign up is Monday, Aug. 6. Contact Katie or Pat at 366-1044. Extra foursome forms and sponsor forms will be available at the K Club.

Monies raised from past tournaments have been used to establish an annual Gary Tripp Colorectal Cancer Research fund at Roswell Park, an annual GTMGT Dunkirk High School Scholarship and an annual donation to the GTMGT SUNY Fredonia Scholarship.
