Dunkirk athletics sports physical date is July 27

Dunkirk High School will be offering free sports physicals to all students in grades 7-12 on Thursday, July 26 at 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. A permission slip is needed and can be picked up in the main office or the nurses office at the high school. If you have any questions please call the athletic director, Mike Sarratori, at 716-861-2047.

Also, all athletes need a new blue card turned in as soon as possible to the high school athletic office or nurses office.

Second annual DLBA Golf Tournament July 21

The second annual Dunkirk Lakeshore Bowling Association Golf Tournament will be Saturday, July 21 at Rose Brook Golf Course, Beebe Road, Silver Creek.

Format: 4-person scramble (best ball). Registration at 10 a.m., shotgun start at 11 a.m. Cost is $90 per person or $360 per team and includes golf, cart, on course contests, prizes (for men, women and mixed teams), lunch at the turn and New York strip steak dinner afterward. A Chinese auction and 50/50 will also be available.

Arias coming to Lakewood YMCA July 21

Jimmy Arias, former No. 5-ranked tennis player in the world, will be coming to the Lakewood YMCA on July 21.

The daylong event includes youth and adult clinics, a luncheon Q&A, followed by an exhibition match starring top local players: Matt Johnson, Dusty Nelson Sr., and Martin Hoch.

Arias, a Buffalo native, recorded career victories over Andre Agassi, John McEnroe, and Boris Becker. Along with reaching the U.S. Open semifinals, Arias won five ATP single titles and was a member of the U.S. Davis Cup Team.

All clinics are sold out, however, tickets for the exhibition match at 1 p.m. are still available for $10. Call the Lakewood YMCA at 763-0303 for more information.

Goldenhawks football plans walk/run fundraiser

The Westfield Goldenhawks football and cheerleading program will be hosting a 5k run and 1 mile walk on Saturday, July 21. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and race begins at 10 a.m. There will be basket raffles and games. All profits benefit the Westfield Goldenhawks midget football and cheerleading. DHS/CMHS/FHS alumni golf tourney is Aug. 3

The DHS/CMHS/FHS Alumni Golf Tournament will take place Friday, August 3 at Shorewood Country Club with a 10 a.m. shotgun start.

The ninth annual tourney will benefit the Dunkirk-Fredonia Little League and Girls Softball programs. Honorary starters are Dunkirk Mayor Willie Rosas and Jack Shubert, Shorewood’s “pro emeritus.”

Registration in the grove next to the pro shop is 8:30 a.m. A group photo will be at 9:45 a.m. Cash bar 3 p.m., dinner 4:30 p.m. Trophy presentation, door prize and silent auction will be after dinner. There will also be a $500 hole in one contest sponsored by Mary Asher in memory of Tom Asher.

Cost is $80 per golfer and includes golf, cart, coffee and donuts, dinner buffet and dessert. Non-golfers can attend the dinner buffet for $27 per person. Email signup sheets to miami72@comcast.net.
