Shorewood hosts Marigold Golf Tournament

The weather was perfect at Shorewood Country Club, as it hosted the 52nd Marigold Golf Tournament on Friday. The theme for this year’s tournament was a Poker Run. The winning hand was won by Michele Borrello Grisanti.

The overall tournament winners were Sue Borrello, Gail Miller, Michele Borrello Grisianti and Gina Corsaro. First place in the Royal Flush flight went to Cathy Berner, Daryl Spacc, Grace Hanlon and Sue Ketcham. Second place went to Susan Marsh, Annita Luce, Jan Damico Fiske and Mary Bartkowski. First place in the Four Aces flight went to Kay Poweski, Sue Malone, Monica Lane and Judy Mowery. Second place went to Lori Danforth, Sue Grace, Mary Haight and Mary Kelley.

Longest drives were secured by Jenny Ringler and Lori Danforth. The closest to he pin on the four par-3s were won by Jenney Ringler on two holes and the other two were won by Grace Hanlon and Judy Mowery. The closest to the pin, second shot were won by Annita Luce and Nancy Taaffe on two of the par-4s.

Goldenhawks run/walk fundraiser today

The Westfield Goldenhawks football and cheerleading program will be hosting a 5k run and 1 mile walk today. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and race begins at 10 a.m. There will be basket raffles and games. All profits benefit the Westfield Goldenhawks midget football and cheerleading. Gary Tripp Memorial Golf Tournament Aug. 25

The Tenth and Final Gary Tripp Memorial Golf Tournament (GTMGT) plans are progressing and on the first tee. The 2018 tournament is set for Aug. 25 at the Vineyards golf courses in Fredonia. Registration starts at 9 a.m. The shotgun start is at 10 a.m.

The registration fee of $65 per golfer includes food on the course and dinner at the Kosciuszko Club and a golfer’s gift. The deadline to sign up is Aug. 6. Contact Katie or Pat at 366-1044. Extra foursome forms and sponsor forms will be available at the K Club.

Monies raised from past tournaments have been used to establish an annual Gary Tripp Colorectal Cancer Research fund at Roswell Park, an annual GTMGT Dunkirk High School Scholarship and an annual donation to the GTMGT SUNY Fredonia Scholarship.

DHS offering free sports physicals to students

Dunkirk High School will be offering free sports physicals to all students in grades 7-12 on Thursday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. A permission slip is needed and can be picked up in the main office or the nurses office at the high school. If you have any questions please call the athletic director, Mike Sarratori, at 716-861-2047.

Also, all athletes need a new blue card turned in as soon as possible to the high school athletic office or nurses office.
