Men’s senior baseball league

L’il Magill’s Giants 14, Pro Bats Yankees 7

Despite yielding a whopping 14 free passes, the Giants (3-7) used a crushing 6-run sixth inning to romp over the Yankees (9-2) in CMSBL action. The Yanks committed seven errors in the field resulting in eight unearned runs for the Giants. Nick Raynor (four hits, three runs, two doubles) was the hitting star for the winners. Josh Strzelac (two doubles, two runs) added three hits of his own, while Jordan Bennick added two singles. Bennick got the mound victory in relief of Alex Rexach. Despite their control problems, the pair only allowed three Yankee hits.

The bright spots for the Bombers were Evan Carmello (four runs, three BB’s) and Joe Polichetti (four BB’s) who both reached base safely all four times at the plate. Matt Eaker and Jason Howard shared mound duties in the loss, yielding 11 hits, walking two and striking out five Giant hitters.

Stericycle Athletic 9, Pro-Bats Yankees 4

Trailing 3-1 in the top of the 5th, the surging A’s (5-7) scored seven times and cruised to victory over the slumping (9-4) Yankees. Austin Spicer was a perfect 3 for 3 for the winners, while Zach Nykula singled twice and Brian Gunnell scored three times. Bob Bankoski legged out a key single to help aid the A’s win. Kevin Silk was the winning pitcher in relief of Spicer. Gunnell cleaned up the last inning, striking out two. The Yanks managed only six hits, two by Joe Polichetti (two runs). The Yanks’ Dennis “Waxy” Gawronski allowed only one run heading into the 5th, when the wheels fell off. Polichetti and Allan Carmello chewed up the remaining innings for the Bombers. The trio allowed 10 hits, while striking out five and walking three A’s hitters.

Pro-Bats Yankees 9, Kosciuszko Club Phillies 4

The (10-4) Yankees snapped a three game losing streak, banging out 13 hits, topping the “Dog House” Phillies (6-6) in the 2nd half of a double header for both teams Sunday. Evan Carmello, Jason Howard, Justyn Vara and Joe Coughlin all had two hits for the Yanks, while Joe Polichetti scored twice. Vara chalked up his third complete game victory of the season on the hill, allowing four hits, striking out 13 and walking three. Mark “Spleen” Zinni (2B) wrapped two hits and scored once for the Phils. Zinni also started and lost the game on the mound. He was relieved by Ryan Thompson. The pair allowed walked seven and struck out two. Marquel Ruiz flashed his cannon arm, throwing out a Yankee runner trying to score on a single to center, to end the second inning.

First FHS Cross Country practice Monday

Fredonia High School’s first Cross Country team practice is August 13 at 6 p.m. at Tinman Hill. Please bring a full water bottle to practice. New runners always welcome. Running experience is not necessary. All runners must have a current physical on file with the nurse, the brown form turned into the office and a parent waiver signed and turned into the office by today. Randy Goss Memorial Golf Outing Aug. 18

The 18th Randy Goss Memorial Golf Outing will be Saturday, Aug. 18 at The Vineyards Golf Course. This is a two-person scramble format. Tee off will be a shotgun start at 9 a.m. All golfers are asked to be at the course at 8:30 a.m. The cost is $60 per person, which gets you 18 exciting holes, cart, lunch, beer, pop, closest to the pins, CTPs on par 3s, skins and a BBQ dinner at Dom Polskis By FREDS Catering. This is a golf outing for all golfers, from experienced to the less experienced. To sign up call Jason Goss at 410-1538 or stop at the Vineyards course and Cheryle Goss at 366-1156.

Gary Tripp Memorial Golf Tourney Aug. 25

The Tenth and Final Gary Tripp Memorial Golf Tournament (GTMGT) plans are progressing and on the First Tee. The 2018 tournament is set for Aug. 25 at the Vineyards golf courses in Fredonia. Registration starts at 9 a.m. The shotgun start is at 10 a.m.

The registration fee of $65 per golfer includes food on the course and dinner at the Kosciuszko Club and a golfer’s gift. Contact Katie or Pat at 366-1044 with any questions. Extra foursome forms and sponsor forms will be available at the K Club.

Monies raised from past tournaments have been used to establish an annual Gary Tripp Colorectal Cancer Research fund at Roswell Park, an annual GTMGT Dunkirk High School Scholarship and an annual donation to the GTMGT SUNY Fredonia Scholarship.

Cassadaga Kids Triathlon is Aug. 18

Wilson Endurance Sports announces the Cassadaga Kids Triathlon.

This fun event will be held for kids 17 and under in Cassadaga at 9 a.m. Aug. 18. Stay fit and learn new skills while having a great time with new friends.

All that you need is a swim suit, a bicycle and helmet, and a pair of running shoes.

Swim in beautiful Cassadaga Lake, cycle around the lake (all right hand turns, never crossing traffic) and run along Dale Drive next to the lake.

— Ages 11 and under: Swim 100 meters, bike 3 miles, run 1 mile.

— Ages 12 to 17: Swim 200 meters, bike 6 miles, run 1 mile.

Age group awards and wave starts as follows: 16 and 17 years old, 14 and 15, 12 and 13, 10 and 11, 8 and 9, 6 and 7, 5 and under.

Transition open at 7 a.m. Pre-race meeting begins at 8:30 a.m. in which all athletes are required to attend and must be accompanied by an adult or guardian.

Race is USAT-sanctioned and one day event insurance coverage is required and purchased at registration on race day if not an active USAT member. All USAT rules and regulations apply. The race will be held rain or shine.

There will be an award ceremony following the race.

Wilson Endurance Sports also produces the Southern Tier Triathlon Club Summer Tri Series, which is a sprint triathlon held on one Wednesday evening a month in Cassadaga, as well as weekly practice sessions.
