The Quadrangular Matches

The Quadrangular Matches is the oldest consecutive international golf competition in the world. It is a round robin format event that sees the same four clubs, Shorewood Country Club, Lockport Town and Country Club, St. Catharine’s Country Club and Lookout Point Country Club. St. Catharine’s and Lookout Point are Canadian-based clubs while Shorewood and Lockport are based in the United States.

Sept. 7, 8 and 9 saw these matches contested at Shorewood Country Club. The event saw great comradery, weather and golf. The matches were played in Round Robin format and the event was decided on the last day. The schedule fortunately pitted the leading club (St. Catharine’s) vs. second place positioned Shorewood Country Club in the final match. The home team was fortunate to take the title by winning five of six team matches in convincing fashion.

While the competition is fierce, it is the spirit of this competition that is the hallmark of this event. 96 years ago, representatives from these clubs got together and started this competition. The event has withstood the Great Depression, World War II and a myriad of natural and man-made disasters. This event has stood the test of time because the players and people involved in the event are relentless in the support and promotion of the event.

Congratulations to all the players in the event, but specifically the 2018 winners of the Quadrangular Match from Shorewood Country Club: Josh Harrington, Mike Ringler, Beau Passafaro, Lee Parker, Jeremy McAfee, Kaine Kelly, Derek Dawson, Terry Redman, Rich Conti, Steve Zatorski, Cory Dzudich, Andrew Benchley, Moonie Rys, Dean Ringler, Joe Woloszyn, Patrick Swanson, Rick Ketcham and Team Captain Jeff Passafaro.
