The NCCS Monarchs opened the fall campaign losing a tightly contested slug fest against Queen of Heaven. Rylee Streffer (two hits, two runs) homered for the Monarchs, while Myah Benjamin, Emma Dulak, and Colin Morabito all scored two runs in defeat. Streffler struck out two batters in three innings of work on the mound, while Luca Gullo struck out all six batters he faced in relief.
ST. PETER and PAUL-HAMBURG 6, NORTHERN CHAUTAUQUA CATHOLIC 2
The Monarchs scored two first inning runs, but were shut down by Saint pitching the rest of the way, en route to a 6-2 loss. Luca Gullo (two hits) reached base three times, while Dylan Ott and Olivia Cole (singles) reached twice. Natalia DiPalma and Noah Benjamin also singled in the loss. Ott and Gullo combined to pitch admirably in the loss, with Gullo striking out five Saint batters.

Dr. John R. Forbes golf tourney is Saturday
On Sept. 29, the inaugural running of the Dr. John R. Forbes Memorial Golf Tournament will be held at the Cassadaga Country Club on Frisbee Road in Cassadaga.
The format is a nine hole, two person scrambler with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. Members and guests are welcome to play. The cost is $40 for golfers and $30 for Cassadaga Country Club members. Those interested in playing should contact the country club at 595-3003 to register. Food and prizes are planned as well as a 50/50 drawing and raffles.
Chautauqua Tennis Club Open House Oct. 28
The Chautauqua Tennis Club will be hosting a New Member Open House on Sunday, Oct. 28 from 1-4 p.m. Come and join us for an afternoon of fun and refreshments. Learn about this well-kept secret where you can play tennis during the winter months right here in your own backyard. Members will be available to answer questions and membership forms will be available. Enjoy an entertaining junior and adult match and register for door prizes. The club is located at Floral Hall on the Chautauqua County Fairgrounds.
Historical Society to host event at Vineyards
The Dunkirk Historical Society is having a unique 9-hole golf outing on Oct. 13 at the Vineyards Golf Course with tee-off at 10 a.m. and coffee with donuts at 9:30 a.m. This is a shamble format, everyone tees off with a Pre-1980 wood and some 1900 woods. Then everyone in the group goes to best shot and starts to keep their own score from that point on.
The cost is $35 with proceeds benefits improvements to the Historical Museum. The fee gets you golf, cart, breakfast, and a lunch after with prizes. Prizes will be CTP on Holes 1, 3, 5, and 9, the longest drive on Hole 4, low score and best traditional golf attire. Antique clubs will be provide at all tee boxes.
