Monday Night Ladies League — The Vineyard Golf Course Monday Night Ladies League finished the season with a banquet at the Colony Restaurant. The top four teams of the 2018 season were 1st place Beth Rich and Barb VanDette, 2nd place Viki Clark and Vicki Westling and 3rd place tie Charity Mucha and Carroll Nalepa, Carol Pietrkiewicz and Jan Stokes. The least amount of putt overage for the league went to Barb VanDette, Viki Clark and Vicki Westling. The following recorded birdies for the season Sue Cave, Vicki Westling, Charity Mucha, Carroll Nalepa, Bina Loftus and Beth Rich. The lone eagle was recorded by Charity Mucha. Most improved handicap went to Mucha, VanDette and Rich, most consistent handicap was Diane Enser and Westling. Perfect attendance was recognized along with other fun facts.

Planning for the 2019 golf season was discussed. The League is looking for new teams or anyone wanting to be a substitute. Please call Barb VanDette 934-3993.

Tri County Country Club

The Girls 4 Golf league met on Sept. 18 for their year end banquet that was held at Tri County Country Club in Forestville. Following dinner recognition went to Kim Murphy for most pars and Nancy Phillips for most bogies for the season. Donna Merritt was presented with a birdie marker for the birdie that she made on May 29 on hole No. 9. A short meeting was held and officers were elected for 2019 with Sue Gotowka as president, Nancy Phillips as treasurer, Debbie Yerico as gifts and Sally Giambrone as scorekeeper. See photo above.

Classes for baseball umpires to start Oct. 9

The Chautauqua County Baseball Umpires Association will be holding classes for anyone interested in becoming a certified high school baseball umpire. Please contact Ray Lindquist at 450-2158 to register for the classes that will be held at Levant Wesleyan Church beginning on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 6 p.m.

Classes are held at no cost for those interested in umpiring high school or youth baseball in Chautauqua County.

Historical Society to host event at Vineyards

The Dunkirk Historical Society is having a unique 9-hole golf outing on Oct. 13 at the Vineyards Golf Course with tee-off at 10 a.m. and coffee with donuts at 9:30 a.m. This is a shamble format, everyone tees off with a Pre-1980 wood and some 1900 woods. Then everyone in the group goes to best shot and starts to keep their own score from that point on.

The cost is $35 with proceeds benefits improvements to the Historical Museum. The fee gets you golf, cart, breakfast, and a lunch after with prizes. Prizes will be CTP on Holes 1, 3, 5, and 9, the longest drive on Hole 4, low score and best traditional golf attire. Antique clubs will be provide at all tee boxes. Chautauqua Tennis Club Open House Oct. 28

The Chautauqua Tennis Club will be hosting a New Member Open House on Sunday, Oct. 28 from 1-4 p.m. Come and join us for an afternoon of fun and refreshments. Learn about this well-kept secret where you can play tennis during the winter months right here in your own backyard. Members will be available to answer questions and membership forms will be available. Enjoy an entertaining junior and adult match and register for door prizes. The club is located at Floral Hall on the Chautauqua County Fairgrounds.

City of Dunkirk to host martial arts program

The Family Martial Arts Center and The Karate Kidz Zone have partnered with the city of Dunkirk to once again host a 2 week free karate seminar. The program is geared for all ages 2-18 years of age. Our purpose is to assist in positive role models, healthy living, building confidence, self defense and t encourage children to be involved with the great out doors.

¯Children ages two through six years old will enjoy the knowledge and fun shared with The Karate Kidz Zone program on Wednesday’s 5 p.m. until 5:40 p.m. and Saturday’s 11 a.m. until 11:40 a.m. weekly.

¯Students ages 7 and up will be Instructed by The Family Martial Arts Center program. The sessions for these ages are Monday’s 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m., Wednesday’s 6 p.m. until 6:50 p.m. and Saturday’s 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. weekly.

All interested families may call 672-6683 for more information or simply just stop by during any scheduled sessions. There are no start or end date.
