Wednesday Travel League
The league played an extremely soaked Country Meadows Golf Course in Venango, PA. following extended periods of heavy rains. Robert Calph won his league-high 11th event of the season with the low round of 77. He has now been the low man or tied for the low score in the past seven events, and in 10 of the past 11 events. Bob Thompson finished second with 82, while Ed Tofil and Tom Destro tied for third with 83. Calph and Ed Tofil each shot 39 to lead the front nine. Thompson shot a 1-over par 37 to lead the back nine, while Calph and Mike Wolfe each shot 38. Ken Kaus and Dan Kaszuba won the B and C Flights, respectively. The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioner’s Award was Jim Ellman Sr.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish piled up ten 3rd inning runs and cruised to victory over the visiting NCCS Monarchs at Cazenovia Park in Buffalo. The Luca Gullo had two hits in defeat, while Natalia DiPalma, Dylan Ott, Noah Benjamin and Myah Benjamin (run scored) also had hits for the Monarchs. Ott and Gullo pitched in loss. Ott struck out two Notre Dame batters, while Gullo struck out all six batters he faced.

The NCCS Monarchs jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings, but could not withstand a late inning rally at the QOH School in West Seneca. Dylan Ott (two runs) tripled for the Monarchs, while Joe Askar (double), Robert Harrington and Noah Benjamin had hits of their own. Rylee Streffler and Colin Morabito also scored in defeat. Streffler and Ott pitched for the Monarchs, combining for eight strikeouts. Natalia DiPalma and Olivia Cole played well defensively for the Monarchs.

Classes for baseball umpires to begin Tuesday
The Chautauqua County Baseball Umpires Association will be holding classes for anyone interested in becoming a certified high school baseball umpire. Please contact Ray Lindquist at 450-2158 to register for the classes that will be held at Levant Wesleyan Church beginning on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 6 p.m.
Classes are held at no cost for those interested in umpiring high school or youth baseball in Chautauqua County.
Historical Society to host event at Vineyards
The Dunkirk Historical Society is having a unique 9-hole golf outing on Oct. 13 at the Vineyards Golf Course with tee-off at 10 a.m. and coffee with donuts at 9:30 a.m. This is a scramble format, everyone tees off with a Pre-1980 wood and some 1900 woods. Then everyone in the group goes to best shot and starts to keep their own score from that point on.
The cost is $35 with proceeds benefits improvements to the Historical Museum. The fee gets you golf, cart, breakfast, and a lunch after with prizes. Prizes will be CTP on Holes 1, 3, 5, and 9, the longest drive on Hole 4, low score and best traditional golf attire. Antique clubs will be provided at all tee boxes. City of Dunkirk to host martial arts program
The Family Martial Arts Center and The Karate Kidz Zone have partnered with the city of Dunkirk to once again host a two week free karate seminar. The program is geared for all ages 2-18 years of age. Our purpose is to assist in positive role models, healthy living, building confidence, self defense and to encourage children to be involved with the great out doors.
¯Children ages two through six years old will enjoy the knowledge and fun shared with The Karate Kidz Zone program on Wednesday’s 5 p.m. until 5:40 p.m. and Saturdays 11 a.m. until 11:40 a.m. weekly.
¯Students ages seven and up will be Instructed by The Family Martial Arts Center program. The sessions for these ages are Monday’s 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m., Wednesday’s 6 p.m. until 6:50 p.m. and Saturday’s 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. weekly.
All interested families may call 672-6683 for more information or simply just stop by during any scheduled sessions. There is no start or end date.
