CSHOF Announces Banquet Ticket Locations

JAMESTOWN — Chip Johnson, chairman of the 38th annual Chautauqua Sports Hall of Fame Induction Banquet has announced the locations where tickets may be purchased for the Feb. 18 event.

Jamestown Cycle Shop, 10 Harrison Street, Jamestown; Matt’s News, 93 E. Third Street, Dunkirk; and the Chautauqua Sports Hall of Fame, 15 W. Third Street in Jamestown, are the official distribution sites. Tickets can also be ordered by phoning Johnson at 485-6991. The price per ticket is $50. CSHOF members receive a $5 discount.

Inductees for the Class of ’19 are Cheryl Bailey, Tiffany Decker, Vince Gullo, Chuck Johnston, Jack Harper, Luella Kye, Michael Lopriore, Bob Palcic and mark Weaver.

The Lakewood Rod and Gun Club, 433 East Terrace Avenue, Lakewood, will again host the CSHOF banquet. Hospitality begins at 5 p.m. with dinner to follow at 6 p.m.

Brocton to hold sports meetings on Jan. 9

There will be a meeting for Brocton parents and players interested in playing modified or varsity football and girls swimming/diving this upcoming season. The meeting will be held in the Brocton auditorium on Wednesday, Jan. 9, at 5:30 p.m. Important information and details about the upcoming season will be discussed. Exercise-a-thon to be held at NCCS on Jan. 13

New Year’s can be an exciting time, brimming with the promise of fresh starts and new beginnings. It’s also an opportunity to recommit to your health and well-being. Start the New Year off on the right foot in 2019 by joining an Exercise-a-thon benefiting Northern Chautauqua Catholic School (NCCS) in Dunkirk.

Scheduled from 1-3:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13 in the NCCS gymnasium, the event offers participants an amazing workout by six local fitness instructors: Sue Chaffee, Kathy Forster, Anna Carapella, Tamara Racino, AnnMarie Hamlet and Cheryl Tabone. No matter what your skill level, challenging workouts will be presented by this team of instructors and modified according to ability. Refreshments and give-aways will be available, and local DJ Joe Gouldwill add to the energized mix with music throughout the afternoon. Interim Principal Andrew Ludwig will also be on hand to kick off the event.

Presale tickets are highly recommended as only a limited number are available, and can be purchased at NCCA or from one of the instructors. The cost for the Exercise-a-thon is $20 per participant (adults only). Come out and join the fun while supporting NCCS. For more details, visit the NCCS Facebook page.

Team New Era baseball tryouts Jan 12, Jan. 19

Team New Era will hold tryouts for its 8U and 9U rookie baseball program on Jan. 12 and Jan. 19 at 1 p.m. at its Depew Facility. For more information or to register see teamnewerabaseball.com or contact Rich Wozniak at (716) 681-3001.

SUNY Fredonia offers HS baseball clinic Jan. 20

The Fredonia Baseball team will be holding a pair of baseball clinics on Sunday, Jan. 20 for grades 9-12. Pitchers and catchers will go from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. A hitting and defense clinic will go from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost is $25 for one session and $30 for both. Lunch will be provided for those that attend both sessions.

Dunkirk hosting winter swim program Feb. 2

Classes are for the following age groups: Infant/Parent, Guppies (beginners), Minnows, Fish, Sharks and Dolphins (advanced).

Swim lessons will take place on Saturdays, starting Feb. 2-April 6.

There will be three scheduled times for lessons, that are as follows:

¯9-9:45 a.m. which will include the following groups: Minnow, Fish, Infant/Parent.

¯10-10:45 a.m. which will include the following groups: Red Guppy, Blue Guppy.

¯ 10-11 a.m. “Sharks and Dolphins” which will include the following groups: Red Guppy, Blue Guppy.

¯11-11:45 a.m. and will include the following group: Red Guppy, Blue Guppy.

Registration will take place on Friday, Jan. 25 in the High School pool lobby from 4-5:30 p.m. for Dunkirk residents and 5:30 p.m.-7 p.m. for non-residents.

Dunkirk residents: First child $40, second child $35 and additional children are $30 each.

Non-Dunkirk residents: First child $45, second child $40 and additional children are $35 each.

ALL REGISTRATIONS MUST BE PAID IN CASH. NO CHECKS CAN BE ACCEPTED.

All classes will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. During lessons, all parents are asked to stay in the balcony area to avoid confusion on the pool deck. Please no food or drinks in the pool or balcony area.
