Meet the Chautauqua Hurricane team Saturday

The Chautauqua Hurricane will be hosting a meet the players event on Saturday, Feb. 16 at The Salvation Army in Dunkirk. Fans will be offered a homemade meal, while fans can participate in free throw and 3-point contests with prizes available to the winners. There will also be a bake sale. The Hurricane will play against the Chautauqua Center at 2 p.m. that day. Tickets cost $10 and must be purchased by Feb. 11. Catt. County Hall of Fame names Class of 2019

The 17th Annual Cattaraugus County Sports Hall of Fame Banquet will be held on Saturday, March 30 at the Cattaraugus Firemen’s Club beginning at 6 p.m.

The HOF has selected 13 new members to be inducted this year that include: James Wojdan, (Cattaraugus-Little Valley), Peter Spear, (Franklinville), Kathy Woznek, (Olean), Doug Seamans, (Randolph), Scott Crist, (Salamanca), Tim Geiger, (Gowanda), Steve Skvarka, (Allegany-Limestone), Mike Loftus, (Ellicottville), Mary Doud, (Pioneer), Mike Williams, Jr., (West Valley), Lynford “Wimpy” Swetland, (Portville), Ken Roberts, (Hinsdale) and Marty Brisky (Cattaraugus County game official).

Tickets for the banquet and induction ceremony are $25 and can be reserved be emailing hidibenton@aol.com or call banquet chairman Mark Benton at 532-4053. The deadline for reservations is March 22.

Dunkirk baseball to host Comedy Night March 9

The Dunkirk baseball team will be holding their annual Comedy Night on Saturday, March 9 at The Clarion Hotel at 7 p.m. with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. There will be a cash bar and a light menu available. Tickets are available at the Matts News. You can call Dunkirk’s head coach Frank Jagoda at 785-4313 for more information about the event.

Lake Shore 3-on-3 basketball tourney is March 9

The Lake Shore High School Academy of Business and Finance will be sponsoring its annual 3-on-3 basketball tournament on Saturday, March 9. The double elimination tournament will be held at the Lake Shore High School gymnasium, 959 Beach Road, Angola with staggered start times beginning at 8 a.m. and ending at 5 p.m.

Registration fees are $140 for 4-person adult teams, $100 for 4-person high school teams and $60 for 4-person youth (9-12 year old) and middle school teams. The registration fee includes an event jersey for each player. Brackets include Open Men, Open Women, High School Boys, High School Girls, Middle School Boys, Middle School Girls, Youth Boys and Youth Girls. Register online at www.lakeshorecsd.org.

The Academy will also be hosting a chicken barbecue at the event — the cost is $10 per meal. Meals may be prepurchased — information is available with registration information on the District’s website listed above. Basket drawings will also be held. CSHOF names banquet ticket locations

Tickets may be purchased at the Feb. 18 event at the Jamestown Cycle Shop, 10 Harrison Street, Jamestown; Matt’s News, 93 E. Third Street, Dunkirk; and the Chautauqua Sports Hall of Fame, 15 W. Third Street in Jamestown. Tickets can also be ordered by phoning 485-6991. The price per ticket is $50. CSHOF members receive a $5 discount.

Inductees for the Class of ’19 are Cheryl Bailey, Tiffany Decker, Vince Gullo, Chuck Johnston, Jack Harper, Luella Kye, Michael Lopriore, Bob Palcic and Mark Weaver.

The Lakewood Rod and Gun Club, 433 East Terrace Avenue, Lakewood, will again host the CSHOF banquet. Hospitality begins at 5 p.m. with dinner to follow at 6 p.m.
