Dunkirk baseball to host Comedy Night Saturday

The Dunkirk baseball team will be holding their annual Comedy Night on Saturday, March 9 at The Clarion Hotel at 7 p.m. with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. There will be a cash bar and a light menu available. Tickets are available at Matt’s News. You can call Dunkirk’s head coach Frank Jagoda at 785-4313 for more information about the event.

Lake Shore 3-on-3 basketball tourney Saturday

The Lake Shore High School Academy of Business and Finance will be sponsoring its annual 3-on-3 basketball tournament on Saturday, March 9. The double elimination tournament will be held at the Lake Shore High School gymnasium, 959 Beach Road, Angola with staggered start times beginning at 8 a.m. and ending at 5 p.m.

Registration fees are $140 for 4-person adult teams, $100 for 4-person high school teams and $60 for 4-person youth (9-12 year old) and middle school teams. The registration fee includes an event jersey for each player. Brackets include Open Men, Open Women, High School Boys, High School Girls, Middle School Boys, Middle School Girls, Youth Boys and Youth Girls. Register online at www.lakeshorecsd.org.

The academy will also be hosting a chicken barbecue at the event — the cost is $10 per meal. Meals may be prepurchased — information is available with registration information on the district’s website listed above. Basket drawings will also be held. Northern Chautauqua Pickleball to host class

Northern Chautauqua Pickleball announces an introductory class on how to play pickleball. It will take place Tuesday, March 12 at 6 p.m. at St. Anthony’s gym, 32 Moore Ave., Fredonia. There is no charge to participate in this class. Equipment is provided. With questions, call Ed Kirchmeyer at 432-6114.

10th annual St. Patrick’s Dash is on March 16

Chautauqua Striders will host the 10th Annual St. Patrick’s Dash on Saturday, March 16. The event is sponsored by Jamestown Cycle Shop, Northwest Bank, Lena’s Pizza, Taco Hut, The Trophy House, Chautauqua Patron’s Insurance, and IBEW Local Union 106.

The Northwest Arena will host the registration and post-event awards. The start and finish of the three mile course is along West Third Street between Jefferson and Lafayette Streets. “The Dash” is the second race is the 2019 UPMC Chautauqua Runner of the Year Series.

Registration is $25 per person and includes a long sleeve shirt if registration is received by Monday, March 11. Day of Dash registration from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. at Northwest Arena for $30.

Utility League is reorganizing to Tuesday nights

The former Monday Night Utility League at Hillview, of two years ago, is reorganizing. This year it will be at Hillview on Tuesday nights. Currently there are 18 former league members that have committed to this year. The league will continue with a treasurer, scorekeeper and food. There are openings for new members. Catt. County Hall of Fame names Class of 2019

The 17th Annual Cattaraugus County Sports Hall of Fame Banquet will be held on Saturday, March 30 at the Cattaraugus Firemen’s Club beginning at 6 p.m.

The HOF has selected 13 new members to be inducted this year that include: James Wojdan, (Cattaraugus-Little Valley), Peter Spear, (Franklinville), Kathy Woznek, (Olean), Doug Seamans, (Randolph), Scott Crist, (Salamanca), Tim Geiger, (Gowanda), Steve Skvarka, (Allegany-Limestone), Mike Loftus, (Ellicottville), Mary Doud, (Pioneer), Mike Williams, Jr., (West Valley), Lynford “Wimpy” Swetland, (Portville), Ken Roberts, (Hinsdale) and Marty Brisky (Cattaraugus County game official).

Tickets for the banquet and induction ceremony are $25 and can be reserved be emailing hidibenton@aol.com or call banquet chairman Mark Benton at 532-4053. The deadline for reservations is March 22.
