Wednesday Travel League

The league kicked off the 2019 season under brisk but sunny conditions at Cable Hollow Golf Course in Russell, PA. Robert Calph shot the low round of 87 and was followed by Gary Richardson with 89. Calph led the front nine with 43 while Pat Weaver matched Calph’s 44 for low on the back nine. The B Flight winner was Jeff Kubera. The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioner’s Award was Lenny Leszkowicz.

Untied birdies were recorded by: A Flight-Bob Thompson on No. 1, Richardson No. 2 and 13, and Bill Aldrich No. 11; B Flight-Gary Haase No. 8 and 15 and Kubera No. 12. Closest to the pin were John Tofil on No. 2, Aldrich No. 5 and 11, and Mike Wolfe No. 17. Top point winners were Aldrich with 15 and Richardson, Wolfe, Tofil, and Haase all had six each.

Next week the league returns to Cable Hollow for a 10:30 a.m. start. Golfers need to be signed up with John 785-2291 by Noon Monday.

Babe Ruth Baseball tryouts begin today

Brocton/Portland Babe Ruth baseball tryouts begin today, March 30, from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. The tryouts will take place at the Brocton Central School Elementary gym. The tryouts will occur, rain or shine. All players should bring a glove and copy of their birth certificate. Players must be 13, 14 or 15 by April 30. Catt. County Sports HOF Banquet is today

The 17th Annual Cattaraugus County Sports Hall of Fame Banquet will be held this Saturday, March 30 at the Cattaraugus Firemen’s Club beginning at 6 p.m., where 13 individuals representing every school district in the county will be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Vineyards Golf Course to form new golf league

Silver Creek Stretch & Tone class starts April 4

SILVER CREEK — The Community Education division of the Silver Creek Central School District has announced a new class offering to the public this spring. “Stretch & Tone” will meet Thursdays for six classes from April 4 through May 16 (no class April 25) from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Silver Creek Elementary School Library, 1 Dickinson St.

Stretch & Tone is a full body, low impact workout that strengthens and lengthens the muscles. Using Dyna Bands and our own body’s resistance we will work to tone your body and improve flexibility while giving you a more powerful core. This class can be modified for a beginner or an advanced exerciser. Please wear comfortable clothing and bring a mat or towel and a water bottle.

Registration fee is $30 but walk-ins are welcome for $5 per class. The instructor is fitness and aerobics instructor Karen Bogosian.

Art Asquith Golf League registration is April 15

Registration for the Art Asquith Senior Golf League will be held at the Bemus Point Golf Course on Monday, 4/15 at 10 a.m. Registration for golfers 60 and over will be $20 with coffee and donuts available. The league has 24 matches set this year at courses around Western NY and Western Pennsylvania. The cost for golf, cart, and a light lunch is $24 and the tour has six flights with small prizes available weekly. More information can be obtained from the league web site at www.sgolftour.com. Conditions permitting, golf and cart will be available at the course for a special $20 charge after the meeting.

The league is once again participating with the Bunkers in Baghdad charity which provides golf balls (just crossed the 10 million balls sent level) and supplies to our troops all over the world. Please bring balls you want to donate to the meeting.
