Wednesday Travel League

Ed Tofil earned his 75th career tour victory after posting the low round of 83 under very cold temperatures at Cable Hollow Golf Course in Russell, PA. Tofil, the all-time leader in tour wins, led both the front (42) and back (41) nines. Robert Calph finished second with 88, while Joe Michalski was third with 89. The B-Flight Champion was Jeff Marsowicz. The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioner’s Award was Pat Weaver.

Untied birdies were recorded by: A-Flight: Mike Wolfe (No. 3), Michalski (Nos. 5, 18), Bob Thompson (Nos. 7, 10), Tofil (No. 13) and Bill Aldrich (Nos. 14, 17); B-Flight: Jack Hood (Nos. 4, 8), Weaver (No. 5), Dave Franklin (Nos. 10, 15), Danny Kubera (No. 11) and Marsowicz (No. 13). Closest to the pin were John Waterman (No. 2), Michalski (Nos. 5, 11) and Marsowicz (No. 17).

Points leaders were Michalski (24), Marsowicz, Franklin, and Hood (12 each), and Thompson (11). Season points leaders: 1. Wolfe (33), 2. Michalski (29), 3. Aldrich (23), 4. Waterman (18), 5. Franklin (17), 6. John Tofil (16), 7. Kubera, Weaver and Thomspon (14 each), 10. Ed Tofil, Marsowicz and Hood (12 each).

Next week the league will play Blueberry Hill Golf Course, also in Russell, PA. The first tee time is at 10:10 p.m. Golfers must be signed up with John (785-2291) by noon on Monday.

Brocton Softball Flapjack Fundraiser is today

The Brocton Varsity Softball team will hold their annual Flapjack Breakfast Fundraiser at the Dunkirk Applebee’s this Saturday, April 13, from 8-10 a.m. Tickets are $6 and include all-you-can-eat pancakes, bacon, coffee, and juice. There will also be a variety of raffle baskets. You may purchase a ticket at the door, or contact Coach Julie Arnold at 792-2114.

Art Asquith Golf League registration is Monday

Registration for the Art Asquith Senior Golf League will be held at the Bemus Point Golf Course this Monday at 10 a.m. Registration for golfers 60 and over will be $20 with coffee and donuts available. The league has 24 matches set this year at courses around Western NY and Western Pennsylvania. The cost for golf, cart and a light lunch is $24 and the tour has six flights with small prizes available weekly. More information can be obtained from the league web site at www.sgolftour.com. Conditions permitting, golf and cart will be available at the course for a special $20 charge after the meeting.

The league is once again participating with the Bunkers in Baghdad charity which provides golf balls (just crossed the 10 million balls sent level) and supplies to our troops all over the world. Please bring balls you want to donate to the meeting.

Dunkirk Moose Golf League meeting on April 23

The Dunkirk Moose Golf League will hold an organizational meeting on Tuesday, April 23 at Tim Hortons, 92 LSDE, beginning at 7 p.m.

The league golfs on Thursday’s beginning at 4:30 p.m. at the Vineyards. Returning players and new golfers are welcome. Any questions about the league or if you plan on golfing but cannot make the meeting please call Rick Mazurek 366-6835.

Wednesday Night Women’s League meets May 1

Vineyards Golf Course Womens League has moved back to Wednesday night for the 2019 season. There will be a meeting on Wednesday, May 1 at 5 p.m. at the Vineyards clubhouse. The League has openings for Teams and subs. Play will begin with a scramble on May 8 on the Vineyards North course. League play will start May 15 on the Vineyards South course. Monday Night Golf League to start May 13

The Wednesday Night Golf League at the Vineyards will now be playing on Monday nights starting at 4 p.m. on the north side.

The format will be the same as before. Handicap scoring two-person teams. There are a few spots open, if interested contact Bob Manning at 679-5799 or John Lakas at 679-6890. The league hopes to start with a scramble on May 13 with all golfers meeting on the north side at 4 p.m. The league is open all golfers, no matter what your golfing skills are as it is handicap scoring.

20th annual Crouse 5K Challenge set for May 19

GOWANDA — Sponsored by the Gowanda Boosters Club, the 20th annual Crouse 5K Challenge will take place Sunday, May 19 at the Gowanda American Legion, 100 Legion Drive. The 5K challenge is at 4 p.m. and the 1/2 Mile Fun Run is at 5 p.m.

This milestone event will be followed by a post-race party with music, refreshments, prizes. Prizes will be awarded to first, second and third-place finishers as well as overall among the age groups. Proceeds benefit the Dennis Crouse Sr. Scholarship and Gowanda Boosters Club’s efforts to support student opportunities in the Gowanda Central School District.

The 5K costs $15 (A special $10 student rate does not include a shirt) and the Half-Mile Fun Run costs $5.

Brocton memorial run planned for July 27

BROCTON — The Darren Manzella-Lapeira Memorial Run for 2019 will take place at the American Legion Post 434 on Saturday, July 27 and will be a certified 5k run and 2k walk.

Walkers will be able to walk the 5k if they desire. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. that day and the run and walk will begin at 10 a.m. The Virtual Run will be available for those who want to participate, but are unable to make the run and walk in Brocton. Participants may register online at: www.manzella-lapeira-memorial-run.com or www.itsyourrace.com.

The day of the run we will have a large item raffle, a basket auction and a chicken dinner available to purchase. Raffle and chicken dinner tickets will be available shortly to be purchased from committee members.
