Fredonia Minor League Softball

Mary’s Deli vs. Can Kings

Yaeliz Alvarez and Brianna Dougherty led Mary’s with three hits each. Bryleigh Wicks, Katherine Proper, and Alanna Marvin contributed with two hits each. For Can Kings, Adalyn Stellracht and Delany Artrip led the offensive attack with five hits each. McKella Hodkin added four hits, while Peyton Wallace and Bailey Cave contributed with three hits each. Sophia Hunt made the defensive play of the game robbing Wicks of a base hit.

Mary’s Deli vs. Hanover

Brianna Dougherty and Jenna Fryberger led Mary’s with four hits each. Izzy Czecanski, Bryleigh Wicks, and Cora Wojcinski added three hits each while Grace Cicelske added two. Wicks, Fryberger, and Katherine Proper all made excellent defensive plays in the field. Liberty Jones-Smith, Erika Austin, Arianna Merced, and Arianna Allen all recorded singles for Hanover.

Par Tee Girls golf league

The Par Tee Girls recently played at Pinehurst golf club.

The low scores and low nets were had by Kim Underwood with a gross 49 and net 27, Donna Dixon 49 and net 34, Lynn Stetson 51 and net 33, Lori Foster 52 and net 36, Pat Thompson 52 and net 31, Brooke Caulkins 52 and net 33, Patti Petrella 54 and net 38, Diane Enser 54 and net 32, June Beers 55 and net 32.

Longest drive was Kim Tiberio on hole No. 6.

City of Dunkirk Jr. Home Run Derby is Saturday

The City of Dunkirk Youth and Recreation Department proudly presents the 2019 Jr. Home Run Derby, this Saturday, at Kochs Field at Point Gratiot. The event is free and open to all boys and girls ages 10-14, and begins at 12 p.m. There will be one winner from each age division, 14U and 12U.

Registration is encouraged by Thursday. With questions or to register, contact the Dunkirk Youth and Recreation Office at 366-9885 or 366-9886, or by emailing Ryan Hall at rhall@cityofdunkirk.com.

Gowanda 16U softball tourney set for July 27

Gowanda Recreation will hold their annual 16U girls fast pitch softball tournament on Saturday, July 27 at Gateway Park. This is a four-team, round tournament with each team guaranteed three games. Awards and prizes for each team that participates. Entry fee is $65. Call Recreation Director Mark Benton at 532-4053 or email hidibenton@gmail.com to register a team.

American Legion’s District Golf Tourney June 14

On Friday, June 14, the American Legion will be hosting the 2019 District Golf Tournament at the Vineyards Golf course. This is a four-person team outing of 18 holes, with a shotgun start at noon, asking golfers to arrive at 11:15 a.m. to sign in. The cost is $60 per person ($240 per team) for greens fee, cart, prizes and a steak dinner at the Dunkirk Memorial Post 62 on Central Ave. in Dunkirk. This is open to the members and non members of the American Legions. To sign up, call Stan Kawski the 8th District Golf Chair at 716-792-9462. Come out and support your American Legions on flag day.

Gym Rats Basketball Camp set for July 22-26

The Fredonia boys basketball program will be hosting its seventh annual ‘Gym Rats Basketball Camp’ this July at the Wheelock Primary School Gym. The camp is for boys and girls ages 4-9 and will be held the week of July 22-26. The camp runs from 9:30 a.m. to noon daily. Campers will participate in lead-up games, relay races, and a lot of passing, dribbling, ball handling and shooting. All campers get a free t-shirt, basketball and daily snack. The cost for the camp is $75 or $115 for two family members. If you register by June 15, The cost for camp is $65 per child, $100 for two family members, or $150 for three or more family members.

The Bella’s Women’s League starts June 13

The Bellas Women’s League at Vineyards Golf Course will begin their 2019 season on Thursday, June 13. The league has moved to Thursday mornings name draw at 9:30 a.m., tee offs begin at 10 a.m. Join at any time, no partner needed. All skill levels are welcome. Kiwanis Club Charity Golf Tournament is June 28

On Friday, June 28, the Silver Creek Kiwanis Club is seeking participants for its 24th Annual Charity Golf Tournament. It will be held at Tri-County Country Club in Forestville. The day will include a continental breakfast, golf, lunch, appetizers and prizes. Check in is from 7:45 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m., rain or shine. The format is a four-man scramble.

The Kiwanis Club supports children in the communities of Silver Creek, Forestville, Sheridan, Irving and the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation. Their work funded solely through fundraisers and contributions. It is the goal of this club to continue to have a meaningful impact on our community’s children.

Entry fee is $110 ($95 if paid by June 21). Deadline to register is June 26. Numerous sponsorships, tee signage and raffle opportunities exist. Email your questions or interest to Gailmiller3@aol.com.

Fredonia basketball camps announced

The Fredonia Central School Girls Basketball Camp will be held June 27-29 at the Fredonia High School and Middle School gymnasiums from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The Fredonia Central School Boys Basketball Camp will be held July 1-3 at the Fredonia High School and Middle School gymnasiums from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Due to the construction project at the main campus, each camp will be for three days this year, instead of four days like years past.

Cost for each camp is $80 at the door, or $70 if paid by June 15. The camp is open to boys and girls entering grades 3 through 12. All campers will receive a camp T-shirt.

Each athlete is expected to arrive by 9 a.m. and are expected to bring their own lunch.
