Vineyards Tuesday Night Utility League — In Tuesday Night Utility League play this week on the Vineyards Golf Course front nine, George Allessi had low score with a 44. Chris Penfold was next at 45, Dick Lord had a 46 while Matt Hutchinson had a 47. Lou Polchetti was closest to the pin while Penfold, Jerry Reilly, Lee Szalkowski and Ron Kirkby recorded skins. After play, sausage, hot dogs and hamburgers were enjoyed by all.

Wednesday Travel League

The league held its first major of the season, the ‘Pennsylvania Open’, at Oakland Beach Golf Club in Conneaut Lake, PA. Following last week’s washout, the league had another rough outing, as two separate storms hit the area hard during play, limiting the event to 13 holes. The overall winner was Robert Calph with a score of 59 (6-over par). Ed Tofil finished second with 61, while Mike Wolfe, Bob Thompson and Dave Criscione all tied for third with 63. In the B Flight, Gary Haase won on a tiebreaker over Pat Weaver and Pete Gawron. The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioner’s Award was Frank Benamati.

Untied birdies were recorded by: A Flight — Wolfe (No. 1), Thompson (No. 5), Jeff Marsowicz (No. 10) and Tofil (No. 11); B Flight — Haase (No. 3) and Weaver (Nos. 6, 7). Closest to the pin were Al Etzel (No. 6) and Dave Wallace (No. 9).

Top point winners were Weaver (22) and Wolfe and Thompson (17 each). Season points leaders: 1. Tofil (174), 2. Calph (126), 3. Haase (105), 4. John Waterman (72), 5. Etzel (69), 6. Wolfe (67), 7. Thompson (58), 8. Tom Destro (55), 9. Criscione (47), 10. Weaver (46).

City of Dunkirk Jr. Home Run Derby is today

The City of Dunkirk Youth and Recreation Department proudly presents the 2019 Jr. Home Run Derby, today, at Kochs Field at Point Gratiot. The event is free and open to all boys and girls ages 10-14, and begins at 12 p.m. There will be one winner from each age division, 14U and 12U.

The Bella’s Women’s League starts June 13

The Bellas Women’s League at Vineyards Golf Course will begin their 2019 season on Thursday, June 13. The league has moved to Thursday mornings name draw at 9:30 a.m., tee offs begin at 10 a.m. Join at any time, no partner needed. All skill levels are welcome. American Legion’s District Golf Tourney June 14

On Friday, June 14, the American Legion will be hosting the 2019 District Golf Tournament at the Vineyards Golf course. This is a four-person team outing of 18 holes, with a shotgun start at noon, asking golfers to arrive at 11:15 a.m. to sign in. The cost is $60 per person ($240 per team) for greens fee, cart, prizes and a steak dinner at the Dunkirk Memorial Post 62 on Central Ave. in Dunkirk. This is open to the members and non members of the American Legions. To sign up, call Stan Kawski the 8th District Golf Chair at 716-792-9462. Come out and support your American Legions on flag day.

Kiwanis Club Charity Golf Tournament is June 28

On Friday, June 28, the Silver Creek Kiwanis Club is seeking participants for its 24th Annual Charity Golf Tournament. It will be held at Tri-County Country Club in Forestville. The day will include a continental breakfast, golf, lunch, appetizers and prizes. Check in is from 7:45 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m., rain or shine. The format is a four-man scramble.

The Kiwanis Club supports children in the communities of Silver Creek, Forestville, Sheridan, Irving and the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation. Their work funded solely through fundraisers and contributions. It is the goal of this club to continue to have a meaningful impact on our community’s children.

Entry fee is $110 ($95 if paid by June 21). Deadline to register is June 26. Numerous sponsorships, tee signage and raffle opportunities exist. Email your questions or interest to Gailmiller3@aol.com.

Gowanda 16U softball tourney set for July 27

Gowanda Recreation will hold their annual 16U girls fast pitch softball tournament on Saturday, July 27 at Gateway Park. This is a four-team, round tournament with each team guaranteed three games.
