Tuesday Night Girls 4 Golf League

Tuesday June 4 was opening night for the Tuesday Night Girls 4 Golf League at Tri-County Country Club. Patti Hoagland carded a 48 followed by Nancy Phillips with a 52, Diana Carpus with a 54 and Donna Merritt with a 59 on a beautifully manicured course. A dice game was played and won by Patti Hoagland.

American Legion’s District Golf Tourney June 14

On Friday, June 14, the American Legion will be hosting the 2019 District Golf Tournament at the Vineyards Golf course. This is a four-person team outing of 18 holes, with a shotgun start at noon, asking golfers to arrive at 11:15 a.m. to sign in. The cost is $60 per person ($240 per team) for greens fee, cart, prizes and a steak dinner at the Dunkirk Memorial Post 62 on Central Ave. in Dunkirk. This is open to the members and non members of the American Legions. To sign up, call Stan Kawski, the 8th District Golf Chair, at 716-792-9462. Come out and support your American Legions on Flag Day.

Kiwanis Club Charity Golf Tournament is June 28

On Friday, June 28, the Silver Creek Kiwanis Club is seeking participants for its 24th Annual Charity Golf Tournament. It will be held at Tri-County Country Club in Forestville. The day will include a continental breakfast, golf, lunch, appetizers and prizes. Check in is from 7:45 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m., rain or shine. The format is a four-man scramble.

The Kiwanis Club supports children in the communities of Silver Creek, Forestville, Sheridan, Irving and the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation. Their work is funded solely through fundraisers and contributions. It is the goal of this club to continue to have a meaningful impact on our community’s children.

Entry fee is $110 ($95 if paid by June 21). Deadline to register is June 26. Numerous sponsorships, tee signage and raffle opportunities exist. Email your questions or interest to Gailmiller3@aol.com.

Gowanda announces Summer Swim program

GOWANDA — Swimming lessons are being offered this summer at the Gowanda Central School indoor pool for infants and children up through age 12. There will be three sessions — 10 lessons per session — and the cost is $50 for 10 lessons. A second child in the family may register for $40.

2019 Summer Swim Program schedule:

Session one is from July 8-July 19, for Advanced Intermediate Skills from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m., Beginner Swimmers from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. and Infants/Tots/Pre-School with Parents 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

Session two is from July 22-Aug 12, for Advanced Intermediate Skills from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m., Beginner Swimmers from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. and Infants/Tots/Pre-School with Parents 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

Session three is from Aug. 5-Aug. 16, for Advanced Intermediate Skills from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m., Beginner Swimmers from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. and Infants/Tots/Pre-School with Parents 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

GCS has received private donations in memory of Colin Burr and Joyce Smith to help families pay for swim lessons for children who do not know how to swim. Gowanda 16U softball tourney set for July 27

Gowanda Recreation will hold their annual 16U girls fast pitch softball tournament on Saturday, July 27 at Gateway Park. This is a four-team, round tournament with each team guaranteed three games. Awards and prizes for each team that participates. Entry fee is $65. Call Recreation Director Mark Benton at 532-4053 or email hidibenton@gmail.com to register a team.

Gym Rats Basketball Camp set for July 22-26

The Fredonia boys basketball program will be hosting its seventh annual ‘Gym Rats Basketball Camp’ this July at the Wheelock Primary School Gym. The camp is for boys and girls ages 4-9 and will be held the week of July 22-26. The camp runs from 9:30 a.m. to noon daily. Campers will participate in lead-up games, relay races, and a lot of passing, dribbling, ball handling and shooting. All campers get a free t-shirt, basketball and daily snack. The cost for the camp is $75 or $115 for two family members. If you register by June 15, the cost for camp is $65 per child, $100 for two family members, or $150 for three or more family members.

Fredonia girls basketball camp announced

The Fredonia Central School Girls Basketball Camp will be held June 27-29 at the Fredonia High School and Middle School gymnasiums from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Fredonia Central School Boys Basketball Camp will be held July 1-3 at the Fredonia High School and Middle School gymnasiums from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Due to the construction project at the main campus, each camp will be for three days this year, instead of four days like years past.

Cost for each camp is $80 at the door, or $70 if paid by June 15. The camp is open to boys and girls entering grades 3 through 12. All campers will receive a camp T-shirt.

Each athlete is expected to arrive by 9 a.m. and are expected to bring their own lunch.
