Concord FC 3, Alden 2

Concord’s rematch of their season opening opponent, whom they previously beat 1-0, turned into another nail-biter. Concord’s goal scorers were Sam Pietro, Naisaih Rodriguez and Henry Leone. All three goals were set up nicely by Concord’s central midfielder Anthony Piede. David Girdlestone took the win in goal for Concord, making timely saves when needed. Concord held a 3-0 lead with about ten minutes left when a penalty kick, followed by another quick goal, left the result in question until the final whistle was blown. Great hustle goes to Eli Greenough, who was winning every 50/50 ball he challenged.

Concord FC 2, Amherst 0

Sloppy conditions led to sloppy play by both teams on the pitch in Amherst. Countless scoring opportunities by Concord where missed, until Henry Leone converted a nifty pass from Anthony Piede to tally the only first half goal. Leone returned the favor by setting up Piede for Concord’s second goal. David Girdlestone and Mason Tomaszewski split netminding duties for Concord. Tomaszewski came up with a great penalty kick save, in which a goal would have tied the game halfway through the second half. Nathan Mays, Gavin DeLong and Jude Murphy helped with Concord’s clean sheet on defense. Concord’s record now stands at 4-4 on the season.
