Vineyards Golf Course

Tuesday Night Utility League — In play this week on the Vineyards Golf Course front nine’s white tees, Chris Penfold’s 37 took honors. George Allessi and Joe Polichetti carded 39s, Jason Jagoda had a 42 with Lee Szalkowski adding a 43. Mike Kurtz was closest to the pin on No. 9 with Polichetti closest on No. 5. Penfold had the round’s lone skin. BBQ burgers and sausage were enjoyed by all after the round.

Vineyards Pairs League — It was another beautiful Friday evening at the Vineyards for the Pairs League this week. Low score with a 35 was team Penfold, and guests for the evening, Peterson. Tied for second place with a 37, were teams Kilpatrick/Waite and Allessi/Ellman. Jim Waite won closest to the target for the men. Nancy Crandall won closest to the target for the women. Thank you Nancy Crandall for the baked beans and Pam Waite for the dessert.

DHS, CMHS, FHS Alumni Golf Tourney is Friday

The 10th annual Alumni Tournament is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 2 at Shorewood Country Club in Dunkirk. The event will feature graduates from Dunkirk High School, Cardinal Mindszenty High School and Fredonia High School. The 2019 youth orgainazational recipients include the Dunkirk-Fredonia Little League and girls softball programs. Honorary starters of the event will be Dunkirk Mayor Willie Rosas and Jack Shubert, Shorewood “Pro Emeritus.”

Registration the morning of the event begins at 8:30 a.m., located in the “Grove” next to the Pro-Shop. The attendees will pose for a group photo at 9:54 a.m., then will begin the event in a shotgun start, scramble format, beginning at 10 a.m. There will be a $500 Hole-in-one Contest, sponsored by Mary Asher in memory of Tom Asher.

The cost of the event is $80, which includes golf, cart, coffee, dinner buffet and dessert. There is also a free Sahlen hot dog on the Par 3, Hole No. 6 — the Hole-in-one Contest hole. A cash bar is open at 3 p.m. and dinner will be at 4:30 p.m. Trophy presentation and door prizes, along with a silent auction, will be following dinner.

Forestville basketball to hold car wash Saturday

The Forestville girls and boys basketball programs will be holding a car wash fundraiser at the Wal-Mart in Fredonia on Saturday, Aug. 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine. The donations will be $5 presale or $7 the day of.

Dunkirk Lakefront 5k is scheduled for Saturday

The 20th annual Dunkirk Lakefront 5K will be held on Saturday, Aug. 3 at 9 a.m., beginning on the Dunkirk Boardwalk. All proceeds benefit the Dunkirk High School track and field program. The event is part of the 2019 Striders Runner of the Year series. Visit lakefront5k.com for registration.

Annual Grape Belt Open is Aug. 10 at Pinehurst

The third annual Grape Belt Open is set for Aug. 10 at Pinehurst Golf Club in Westfield. The event is a four-person scramble format and includes refreshments, dinner and awards. All proceeds benefit the Grape Discovery Center, allowing the center to continue and operate as a non-profit, encourage tourism and educate all about the grape growing history in the Lake Erie Region. Randy Goss Memorial tournament is Aug. 17

The 19th annual Randy Goss Memorial golf tournament will be on Aug. 17 at The Vineyards Golf Course with a 9 a.m. shotgun start (be at the course by 8:15). This is a two-person scramble format, $60 per golfer. That includes 18 holes of golf, cart, CTPs on every hole, skins, lunch and dinner by Freds at Dom Polskis club. Westfield Union Relief golf tourney is Aug. 17

The 13th annual Westfield Union Relief Association’s “Golfing for Gifts” Tournament will be held Aug. 17, at Pinehurst Golf Course, in Westfield. Union Relief relies on dues paid by its members, donations of money, food, clothing, and presents from the community and fundraising events to fulfill its mission of lending support to families with children, shut-ins and senior citizens. The organization also provides assistance when specific circumstances arise — like a sudden illness or loss of income, a household fire or a natural disaster. Teams of four are being sought to participate. This is a scramble tournament with a shotgun start. Registration fee is $280 a foursome ($70/person) which includes 18 holes of golf, a cart, prizes and lunch. There will also be a Chinese Auction on site. The Relief Zone 5K/10K/Kidz Fun Run Aug. 24

The Relief Zone (TRZ) fundraising committee is holding its seventh annual 5K/10K/Kidz Fun Run on Saturday, Aug. 24 at the Frewsburg Firemen’s Grounds, 4 Main St., Frewsburg. The race will begin at 9 a.m. followed by awards at 10:30 a.m. Interested participants can register online or on race day. The cost to participate is $10 for Kidz Fun Run, $20 for the 5K, and $25 for the 10K. This fee includes a T-Shirt for runners pre-registered by Aug. 16. Fredonia Hockey Camp set for Aug. 26-29

The Fredonia Blue Devils are hosting a youth hockey camp for boys and girls ages 5-12. The camp will be held from Aug. 26-29 at Steele Hall Ice Arena, from 10 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. each day.
