Wednesday Travel League
The league held its third major event of the season, the “New York Open”, at Cardinal Hills Golf Course, in Randolph. Robert Calph shot the low round of 76 and has now won all three majors this season, and four straight dating back to last year. Calph became just the fourth golfer to win five career majors, joining Tony Nicosia (12) and both Kerry Murphy and Kevin Kaszuba (five each). Calph also joined Nicosia, Murphy and John Tofil as the only golfers to win all four major titles. The victory also gave Calph his league-best 10th win this season. Runners up at 82 were Bob Thompson and Mike Wolfe. Calph led both front nine (38) and back nine (38). In the B Flight, Dave Momberger won on a tiebreaker over Dave Franklin and John Bongiovanni. In the C Flight, Joe Bifaro won on a tiebreaker over John Waterman. Bifaro is the first golfer with four career C Flight titles in majors.
