Men’s Senior Baseball League

Pro-Bats Yankees 15, Kosciuszko Club Phillies 5

Two unprecedented events highlighted the Yankees’ regular season clinching win over the Phillies at Al Stuhlmiller Field in Dunkirk. The Yankees (12-2) scored a record 11 runs in the sixth inning and 14 unanswered runs in all to cap a wild comeback. Joe Polichetti (five RBI) became the first league player to launch two home runs in one game to lead the charge for the Yanks. He now has four homers on the year. Evan Carmello (three hits, two RBI), Weston Ley (two hits, three RBI) and Stony Woodard (two RBI) also had big nights at the plate, but it was two key two-out singles by Rich Hofer (RBI) and Joe Coughlin (two hits, two runs) that turned the game. Justyn Vara (6-0) relieved Matt Eaker to earn the pitching victory. The pair uncharacteristically walked seven batters, while allowing eight hits and three earned runs.

The Phillies (5-8) got a perfect day at the plate from Randy Cooper (three hits, run), while Tommy Coughlin and Jeremy Soto each had two hits and a run scored apiece. Pitchers Jeremiah Kirgan, Mark Zinni and Soto were victims of a shrinking strike zone, walking eight Yankee batters on top of 15 hits allowed.
