Wednesday Travel League

Ed Tofil earned his 80th career tour victory with a 78 at The Links at Ivy Ridge in Akron. Tofil was the overall winner on a tiebreaker with Jake Harp. Al Etzel and Mike Wolfe tied for third with 80. Harp and Etzel led the front nine with 38, while Tofil and Wolfe led the back nine with 38. In the B Flight, Bill Aldrich won a four-way tiebreaker over Frank Benamati, Ken Kaus, and Robert Calph. In the C Flight, Tom Destro won on a tiebreaker over Jeff Kubera. The D Flight champion was Dennis Gawronski Sr. The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioner’s Award was Jeff Marsowicz.

Untied birdies were recorded by: A Flight — Etzel (No. 13) and Wolfe (No. 16); B Flight — Wayne Ormsby (No. 2), Kaus (Nos. 3, 14), Tony Destro (Nos. 4, 5) and Aldrich (Nos. 6, 16); C Flight — Tom Destro (No. 2), Dave Miller (No. 12) and John Waterman (No. 17); D Flight — Marsowicz (Nos. 1, 17), Jack Hood (Nos. 3, 14), Rick Tyler (No. 6), Dave Momberger (No. 7), Daniel Carlsson (Nos. 9, 13), Pat Weaver (No. 12) and Gawronski (No. 18). Closest to the pin were Harp (No. 5), Carlsson (No. 8), Miller (No. 12) and Lenny Leszkowicz (No. 15).

This week the league plays Elk Valley in Girard, PA. The first group tees off at 9:30 a.m. At this time all foursomes are filled. To be put on the sub list, golfers should contact John (785-2291).

Friday Evening Pairs League

Pizza and wings were enjoyed by 18 golfers in the Friday evening pairs league. Low score in the four person scramble was the team of Allessi/Kaus with a score of 33. The ball most often used for the men in the scramble was Jim Waite’s. The women whose ball was used most often was a three way tie, Nancy Crandall, Pam Allessi and Theresa Leone.

Last weeks game was the longest drive on hole 7. The longest drive was by Jim Waite for the men and Pam Allessi for the women, both on No. 7.

Westfield Union Relief golf tourney is Aug. 17

The 13th annual Westfield Union Relief Association’s “Golfing for Gifts” Tournament will be held Aug. 17, at Pinehurst Golf Course, in Westfield. Union Relief relies on dues paid by its members, donations of money, food, clothing, and presents from the community and fundraising events to fulfill its mission of lending support to families with children, shut-ins and senior citizens. The organization also provides assistance when specific circumstances arise — like a sudden illness or loss of income, a household fire or a natural disaster. Teams of four are being sought to participate. This is a scramble tournament with a shotgun start. Registration fee is $280 a foursome ($70/person) which includes 18 holes of golf, a cart, prizes and lunch. There will also be a Chinese Auction on site. Randy Goss Memorial tournament is Aug. 17

The 19th annual Randy Goss Memorial golf tournament will be on Aug. 17 at The Vineyards Golf Course with a 9 a.m. shotgun start (be at the course by 8:15). This is a two-person scramble format, $60 per golfer. That includes 18 holes of golf, cart, CTPs on every hole, skins, lunch and dinner by Freds at Dom Polskis club. Dunkirk Football mattress sale set for Aug. 25

The Dunkirk Marauder football team is holding their annual mattress sale on Sunday, Aug. 25, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Located in the auxiliary gym in Dunkirk High School, name brand items are on display and for sale at a huge discount. Free lay-a-way and delivery is available.

As a result of the community’s generosity over the last five years, Dunkirk Football has been able to pay for camps, transportation, championship jackets, senior jackets, fitness memberships and more, which has helped the program become very successful. Dunkirk coach Mike Sarratori thanks the community for all of its help and support.

Fredonia Hockey Camp set for Aug. 26-29

The Fredonia Blue Devils are hosting a youth hockey camp for boys and girls ages 5-12. The camp will be held from Aug. 26-29 at Steele Hall Ice Arena, from 10 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. each day. Dunkirk lakeshore bowling board meeting on Aug. 29

We will be having a special meeting to fill the vacancy of president for the association. Meeting is Thursday Aug. 29 at 7 p.m. at 1st Ward Falcons Club. Open to all usbc members. Anyone interested in getting involved in the local association please attend.

Al Tech Reunion Golf Tourney set for Sept. 21

Plans are being made for the Al Tech Reunion Golf Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 21, at Cable Hollow Golf Course. The cost is $60, which includes 18 holes with cart at Cable Hollow Golf Course food at the turn, dinner at Russell Joy Park Pavilion provided by Super Duper catering. There will be a separate fee of $5 for skins and closest to the pin’s, payable at the course.
