Men’s Senior Baseball League

Cassadaga Marlins 6, Pro-Bats Yankees 2

The Marlins finished the regular season on a high note, downing the Yankees in a game featuring some fine defensive play from the home team. Doug Gerould did it all for the winners, starting with a two-run home run in the first inning. The rubber-armed Gerould, a former Cy Young Award recipient, also pitched a complete game six-hitter, while walking two and striking out four. A diving catch by Devon Parsons in center field, circus catches by both Eric Fermier and Dakota Morano, and a slick second base pick-off of a Yankee runner by Doug Clarke to squash a rally, all helped the cause in the win. Clarke (two hits, double, RBI) and Fermier (two hits, double, RBI) were also magic at the plate for the Marlins (6-9), while Jordan Crabtree scored three times.

The Yankees (12-3) got two hits and an RBI from Weston Ley, while Joe Polichetti (hit, RBI) and Joe Pantano (double, RBI) scored the Yankee runs. Allan Carmello (two earned runs) was the tough luck loser, a victim of four Yankee errors. Carmello, Matt Eaker and Pantano combined to allow seven hits, while walking two and striking out three Marlins. Despite the two-game losing streak, the Yankees captured the 2019 regular season CMSBL crown.
