Vineyards Golf Course

Tuesday Night Utility League — In play this week, Chris Penfold led the way from the white tees on the Vineyards Golf Course front nine, firing an even-par 36 while recording skins on Nos. 3 and 6. Keith Medley shot 40, Mike Kurtz had a 41 and Mike Willoughby added a 42. Closest to the pin on No. 5 was Ron Marsh.

Wednesday Night Women’s League — The Wednesday Night Ladies League saw a lot of good golf at the Vineyards during the month of July with the following results: Round 4 had Charity Mucha with the lowest gross score of 47 and Mimi Smith with the lowest net score of 31. The lowest team net score went to Diane Enser and Jane Ellman with a 67. Round 5 had Bina Loftus with low gross score of 43 and lowest net of 23. Beth Rich saw a birdie on hole 17 and low team net went to Rich and Laurie Kozlowski with a 55. Round 6 action had lowest gross score go to both Beth Rich and Sue Cave with 49. Lowest net score went to Sue Cave with a 29 and lowest team score was had by Cave and Desi Clarke with a 66. Round 7 saw Diane Enser with the lowest gross score of 42 and lowest net of 26. The lowest team net score went to Enser and Ellman with a 59. July ended with Round 8 where Charity Mucha and Diane Enser tied with the lowest gross score of 47. Mucha and Desi Clarke tied for lowest net score with a 33. The lowest team net score was a tie of 72 for both teams of Carroll Nalepa/Mucha and Clarke/Sue Cave with a 72.

The Bella’s Womens League (Aug. 15) — The Bella’s played “even holes” on Thursday at The Vineyards. Top three finishers were: 1. Diane Edgerton, 2. Lauren Kozlowski and 3. Barb VanDette. The league had a special guest playing, Robert Kozlowski, who was able to golf with his grandma. Next league game will be played on Thursday, Aug. 22, name draw at 9:30 a.m. tee offs begin at 10 a.m. All skills levels are welcome, join anytime. Westfield Union Relief golf tourney is today

The 13th annual Westfield Union Relief Association’s “Golfing for Gifts” Tournament will be held today, Aug. 17, at Pinehurst Golf Course, in Westfield. Union Relief relies on dues paid by its members, donations of money, food, clothing, and presents from the community and fundraising events to fulfill its mission of lending support to families with children, shut-ins and senior citizens. The organization also provides assistance when specific circumstances arise — like a sudden illness or loss of income, a household fire or a natural disaster. Teams of four are being sought to participate. This is a scramble tournament with a shotgun start. Registration fee is $280 a foursome ($70/person) which includes 18 holes of golf, a cart, prizes and lunch. There will also be a Chinese Auction on site. Randy Goss Memorial tournament is today

The 19th annual Randy Goss Memorial golf tournament is today, Aug. 17 at The Vineyards Golf Course with a 9 a.m. shotgun start (be at the course by 8:15). This is a two-person scramble format, $60 per golfer. That includes 18 holes of golf, cart, CTPs on every hole, skins, lunch and dinner by Freds at Dom Polskis club. Fredonia HS fall sports begin on Monday

Athletes must have brown or yellow form and waiver turned in to the nurse’s office prior to the start of practice. All forms may be picked up in the high school or middle school office.

The following are the location and time for fall sports practices starting on Aug. 19:

Boys varsity soccer at 7:30 a.m. (back fields), girls varsity soccer at 9 a.m. (back fields), girls swimming at 10 a.m. (pool/picnic), varsity cross country at 4 p.m. (Tin Man Hill at SUNY Fredonia), JV/varsity football at 3 p.m. (Wheelock), JV/Varsity Volleyball at 8 a.m. (MS gym), boys modified soccer at 7:30 a.m. (inside the track), girls modified soccer at 10 a.m. (inside the track), modified volleyball at 1 p.m. (MS gym).

Varsity girls tennis starts Aug. 21 at 8:30 a.m. (tennis courts). Modified cross-country starts Aug. 26 at 9 a.m. (Tin Man Hill at SUNY Fredonia).

Son of the Legion Golf Tournament Aug. 24

The Sons of the Legion in Brocton will be holding its annual golf tournament on Aug. 24. The tournament is being held at Pinehurst golf course in Westfield. The format is a four-person scramble with shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. The cost is $55 per person ($220) per team. This tournament will have prizes, 50/50, mulligans, hotdog at the turn, followed by dinner at the Brocton Legion. This tournament is open to everyone. You do not need to be a Legion member to participate. Proceeds will be used to help veterans and local youth organizations. Openings still exist. Dunkirk Football mattress sale set for Aug. 25

The Dunkirk Marauder football team is holding their annual mattress sale on Sunday, Aug. 25, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Located in the auxiliary gym in Dunkirk High School, name brand items are on display and for sale at a huge discount. Free lay-a-way and delivery is available.

As a result of the community’s generosity over the last five years, Dunkirk Football has been able to pay for camps, transportation, championship jackets, senior jackets, fitness memberships and more, which has helped the program become very successful. Dunkirk coach Mike Sarratori thanks the community for all of its help and support.

Lakeshore bowling board meeting on Aug. 29

We will be having a special meeting to fill the vacancy of president for the association. Meeting is Thursday Aug. 29 at 7 p.m. at First Ward Falcons Club. Open to all usbc members. Anyone interested in getting involved in the local association please attend.
