Wednesday Travel League

The league held its fourth Major of the season, the “Frank Borowski Invitational,” named for its league founder, at Kane Country Club in Kane, PA. Ed Tofil was the overall winner with the low round of 80. Tofil became the fifth golfer to win five majors. In a tie for second were Gary Haase and Mike Wolfe with 81, and it was a career-low round for Haase. Wolfe was low on the front nine with 39 and Tofil and Haase were low on the back nine with 38. Bob Welch and Jim Ellman Sr. won the B and C Flights, respectively. The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioner’s Award was Jack Hood.

Untied birdies were recorded by: A Flight — Tofil (No. 3), Wolfe (Nos. 4, 8), Robert Calph (No. 6), Haase (Nos. 9, 15), Bill Aldrich (No. 13), Bob Thompson (No. 14) and Mick Dunning Sr. (No. 17); B Flight — Welch (Nos. 2, 11), Wayne Ormsby (Nos. 4, 16), John Waterman (Nos. 7, 15) and Ken Kaus (No. 18); C Flight — Angelo Leone (No. 6), Dave Miller (Nos. 8, 14), Ellman (Nos. 9, 15), Brian Lore (No. 11) and Hood (No. 17). Closest to the pin were Pete Pinkoski (No. 5), Miller (No. 8), Pat Weaver (No. 14) and Leone (No. 16).

Top point winners were Miller (72), Wolfe (37) and Welch (28). Season points leaders: 1. Calph (339), 2. Tofil (263), 3. Wolfe (211), 4. Haase (202), 5. Tom Destro (181), 6. Weaver (152), 7. Dave Franklin (140), 8. Waterman (134), 9. Miller (123), 10. Thompson (122).

Vineyards Golf Course

Friday Pairs League — Another beautiful evening was enjoyed by sixteen members of the Friday Pairs League. Team Korzeniewski won with a score of 32, second place was team Kilpatrick/Penfold with a 34. The golfers enjoyed the food purchased from — and prepared by — the course.

Dunkirk Football mattress sale is today at DHS

The Dunkirk Marauder football team is holding their annual mattress sale today, Aug. 25, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Located in the auxiliary gym in Dunkirk High School, name brand items are on display and for sale at a huge discount. Free lay-a-way and delivery is available.

As a result of the community’s generosity over the last five years, Dunkirk Football has been able to pay for camps, transportation, championship jackets, senior jackets, fitness memberships and more, which has helped the program become very successful. Dunkirk coach Mike Sarratori thanks the community for all of its help and support.

Fumble Bowling League meets Aug. 28

The Fumble Bowling League will meet Wednesday, Aug. 28 at 7:30 p.m. at Lucky Lanes. All teams and captains are encouraged to attend, as they are changing to four person teams and make up days have to be voted on because of holidays. The League will start on Wednesday, Sept. 4. Bob Frame Thursday B League meets Aug. 29

The Bob Frame Thursday B League will meet on Thursday, Aug. 29 at Lucky Lanes at 8 p.m. All captains are encouraged to attend. The bowling league starts Thursday, Sept. 5. Lakeshore bowling board meeting on Aug. 29

We will be having a special meeting to fill the vacancy of president for the association. Meeting is Thursday Aug. 29 at 7 p.m. at First Ward Falcons Club. Open to all USBC members. Anyone interested in getting involved in the local association please attend.

Dunkirk swim programs start Sept. 9

Dunkirk High School Pool is proud to announce our Fall 2019 swim program as follows. Please be aware that if the Dunkirk Schools are closed, or evening activities canceled because of weather, our pool programming on that day is canceled as well.

Morning Lap Swim:

Mondays and Wednesdays from September 9 through December 18, Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30-7:30 a.m. (no session 10/14, 11/11, 11/27). No pre-registration needed, $2 per class.

Aquasize:

Mondays and Wednesdays from September 9 through December 18, 6:30-7:30 p.m. (no session 10/14, 11/11, 11/27). No pre-registration needed, $4 per class.

Evening Lap Swim:

Tuesdays and Thursdays from September 10 through December 19, 6:30-7:30 p.m.(no session on 11/28). No pre-registration needed, $2 per class.

Deep Water Aquasize:

Tuesdays and Thursdays from September 10 through December 19, 6:30-7:30 p.m.(no session on 11/28). No pre-registration needed, $4 per class.

Family Open Swim:

Sept. 14 – Dec. 14, 1-2 p.m.

Saturdays from September 14 through December 14, from 1-2 p.m. (no session on 11/30). Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Limited to 60 swimmers, $2 per person. No food or drink allowed in the pool, balcony or locker room area. Outside pool toys, athletic equipment, balls, noodles are prohibited.

Al Tech Reunion Golf Tourney set for Sept. 21

Plans are being made for the Al Tech Reunion Golf Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 21, at Cable Hollow Golf Course. The cost is $60, which includes 18 holes with cart at Cable Hollow Golf Course, food at the turn, and dinner at Russell Joy Park Pavilion provided by Super Duper catering. There will be a separate fee of $5 for skins and closest to the pins, payable at the course. Send check payable to Rick Bellando, 24 Westerly Dr. Fredonia, NY 14063, no later than Saturday, Sept. 7.

The first group tees off at 10 a.m., with registration at 9:30 a.m. Foursomes are as follows: Group No. 1: Rick Bellando, Gene Bellando, Brian Riley, Tom Keller.
