Gowanda Fall Festival Softball Game is Saturday

The third annual Gowanda Fall Festival softball game at Gateway Park on Palmer Street will be played this Saturday, Sept. 28. The starting time for the game has been moved back. The first pitch will now take place at 5 p.m. not 4 p.m. as previously scheduled. Call Recreation Director Mark Benton at 532-4053 to secure your spot in the game.

Pound workouts begin Sept. 30 in Gowanda

GOWANDA – The Adult Education division of Gowanda Central School District is facilitating a series of Pound rockout-workout classes starting Monday, Sept. 30 at 6:30 p.m. Classes will be held Mondays through Dec. 16 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. in the elementary school gym on Aldrich Street with instructor Heidi Wicks-Pierce.

This full-body workout combines cardio, conditioning and strength training with yoga and Pilates-inspired movements. Using Ripstix, lighted drumsticks designed for exercising, Pound transforms drumming into an effective way of working out. It is designed for all fitness levels and is easily modifiable. The alternative vibe and welcoming philosophy will appeal to men and women of all ages and abilities.

Classes will be held Sept. 30, Oct. 7, 21, 28; Nov. 4, 18, 25; and Dec. 2, 9, 16. All 10 classes cost $40 total and you must sign up and pay in full by Sept. 30 or you can pay as you go for $5 per class. Attendees should bring a yoga mat, water bottle and dry sneakers. Southern Tier Regulators baseball clinic Saturday

The Southern Tier Regulators will be hosting a youth clinic at the Fredonia Little League Fields on Clinton Street in Fredonia. The clinic is Saturday, Sept. 28 from 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. for interested players ages 5-12, from all the surrounding area. Players can pre-register or sign up the day of clinic starting at 9 a.m.

The cost is $20 per player. The clinic will have instruction in fielding, throwing accuracy, base running as well as hitting drills. There will also be competitions, as well as possible game play. Registration open for Oct. 12 Ruterbusch Run

Registration is open for the 2019 Fred Ruterbusch Memorial 5k Run & Walk, to be held Saturday, Oct. 12 starting at 10 a.m. on a campus road course at SUNY Fredonia.

The online pre-registration link is at fredoniabluedevils.com. Pre-registration is $20. There will also be on-site registration starting at 9 a.m. the morning of the race. The cost will be $25. Registration for all Fredonia State students is $5.

All proceeds will benefit the Fredonia State Cross Country and Track & Field teams.

Awards will be made to the overall male and female finishers to the top three runners in the following age brackets: 14 & under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, and 80 & up.

In addition to the age-bracket awards, a Kids’ Day is planned — activities in Steele Hall Fieldhouse supervised by track & field team members — and a Kids Run following the 5k.

Dunkirk-Fredonia Steelers open skate Oct. 21, 24

The Dunkirk/Fredonia Steelers hockey team will have an open skate on Monday, Oct. 21 and Thursday, Oct. 24 at 7:30 p.m. to prepare for the upcoming 2019-20 varsity and JV High School ice hockey season. Sign ups will be held at Steele Hall on the Fredonia State campus on Oct. 16. Any student wishing to participate must bring $10 and a copy of your school ID to sign ups. Varsity tryouts will be Monday, Oct. 28 at 6:15 p.m. at Steele Hall.

Track and field officials desired, meeting Nov. 6

Men or women who would like to become certified NY State Track and Field officials are desired. The required meetings will start on Wednesday, Nov. 6.
