Wednesday Travel League

The league held its first event at Elkdale Country Club in Salamanca, the 68th different course played in league history. Mike Wolfe shot the low round of 75 to earn his first tour victory of the season. Dave Wallace was second with 80, while Bill Aldrich and Dave Criscione tied for third with 82’s. Wolfe shot a 1-over par 36 to lead the front nine while Wallace led the back nine with 38. In the B Flight, Ken Kaus was the winner on a tiebreaker with Wayne Ormsby. The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioner’s Award was Lenny Leszkowicz.

Untied birdies were recorded by: A Flight — John Waterman (No. 6), Wolfe (Nos. 13, 16) and Wallace (Nos. 15, 17); B Flight — Tony Destro (No. 2), Tim Walawender (No. 3), Kaus (No. 6), Don Kujawa (Nos. 10, 14) and Ormsby (No. 15). Closest to the pin were Aldrich (No. 4), Wolfe (No. 9), Destro (No. 12) and John Bongiovanni (No. 16).

Ruterbusch Run is Saturday at SUNY Fredonia

Registration is open for the 2019 Fred Ruterbusch Memorial 5k Run & Walk, to be held Saturday, Oct. 12 starting at 10 a.m. on a campus road course at SUNY Fredonia.

The online pre-registration link is at fredoniabluedevils.com. Pre-registration is $20. There will also be on-site registration starting at 9 a.m. the morning of the race. The cost will be $25. Registration for all Fredonia State students is $5.

All proceeds will benefit the Fredonia State cross country and track and field teams.

Awards will be made to the overall male and female finishers to the top three runners in the following age brackets: 14 & under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, and 80 & up.

In addition to the age-bracket awards, a Kids’ Day is planned — activities in Steele Hall Fieldhouse supervised by track & field team members — and a Kids Run following the 5k.
