Wednesday Travel League — The league held its 18th annual “Halloween Spooktacular” at Cassadaga Country Club. Ed Tofil and Robert Calph tied for the low round of 79, with Tofil the overall winner on a tiebreaker. For Tofil, it counts as his 10th Tour victory of the season, and he now has 83 career wins, most all-time. For Calph, he now has 14 Tour victories this season, breaking his own mark of 13 set last year. John Waterman finished a stroke behind with 80, Mike Wolfe had 81, and Dave Criscione and Gary Haase both shot 82. Calph led the front nine with 39, while Waterman led the back nine with 37. Bob Thompson won the B Flight for a league-high sixth time this season. The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioner’s Award was Jack Hood.

Untied birdies were recorded by: A Flight — Waterman (Nos. 1, 13), Criscione (No. 2), Wolfe (No. 9), Gary Richardson (No. 10) and Tofil (Nos. 11, 12); B Flight — Tony Destro (No. 2), Tom Destro (Nos. 3, 10, 15), Don Kujawa (Nos. 5, 9), Thompson (Nos. 7, 16), Pat Weaver (No. 8) and Ken Kaus (No. 17). Closest to the pin were Haase (No. 6), Tom Destro (No. 15) and Kaus (No. 17).

Top point winners were Tom Destro (44), Kaus (26) and Kujawa (18). Season points leaders: 1. Calph (393), 2. Wolfe (353), 3. Tofil (303), 4. Haase (299), 5. Thompson (274), 6. Tom Destro (235), 7. Waterman (223), 8. Criscione (191), 9. Wayne Ormsby (183), 10. Bill Aldrich (182). Milestone hit this week: Tom Destro went over 1,000 career points.

NCCYHA spaghetti dinner Nov. 3 in Fredonia

The Northern Chautauqua County Youth Hockey Association will host its annual spaghetti dinner on Sunday, Nov. 3 from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will take place at the Fredonia Beaver Club, 64 Prospect in Fredonia. There will be a 50/50, “Chinese Auction” and bake sale to benefit the kids. Tickets are $8 and will be available at the door.

Track and field officials desired, meeting Nov. 6

Men or women who would like to become certified NY State Track and Field officials are desired. If you are interested and/or have questions, please contact Bob in the Dunkirk-Fredonia area at 401-2731; Tom in the Jamestown area at 499-1559; or Dan in the Olean area at 307-4804. The required meetings will start on Wednesday, Nov. 6.

Dunkirk Elks Hoop Shoot scheduled for Nov. 23

The annual Hoop Shoot Contest sponsored by the Dunkirk Elks 922 is being held on Saturday, Nov. 23, in the Dunkirk High School auxiliary gymnasium. The hoop shoot will begin promptly at 9 a.m. Access to the auxiliary gym is by the pool entrance in the back of the school.

The hoop shoot is a free contest open to girls and boys in the county. Participants must be ages 8 – 13 years old by April 1, 2020. A 7-year-old who will be 8 years old by April 1, 2020 can participate in this contest. However, a 13-year-old who will be 14 years old by April 1, 2020 is too old to participate. Birth certificates for all participants must be brought to the hoop shoot.

Contestants will be placed into six divisions: boys 8-9, girls 8-9, boys 10-11, girls 10-11, boys 12-13 and girls 12-13. Each division will have a winner provided there are participants for every division.

All contestants must wear clean, dry gym shoes. Appropriate clothing to wear is comfortable, loose fitting shirt and pants, such as a T-shirt and sweatpants or gym shorts.

Spectators are welcome to watch and will need to sit on the side of the gym. Phones must be silenced, talking is not permitted or any other activity which may cause distractions for the contestants. No one is permitted on the gym floor during the hoop shoot.

NorthLake sponsors Christmas Lights Tour 2019

Area travelers are invited to visit the Niagara Falls USA Christmas Lights Festival, including dinner on-your-own at Cracker Barrell, on Tuesday, Dec. 10, via Niagara Scenic Coach. The tour, sponsored by NorthLake Family Recreation Center, will depart from the NorthLake Parking Lot at 38 Nichols Avenue in Westfield at 3:30 p.m., with dinner at 5 p.m., followed by a tour of the Festival of Lights.

Estimated return time is 10 p.m. Cost for the trip is $36 per person. Checks may be made payable to NorthLake Family Recreation Center and mailed to PO Box 334, Westfield, NY 14787, with payment due by Friday, Dec. 6.
