Cattaraugus County Sports Hall of Fame

nominations due Feb. 1

The 18th Annual Cattaraugus County Sports Hall of Fame banquet is set for Saturday, March 28 at the Cattaraugus Firemen’s Club beginning at 6 p.m. The cost for tickets remains at $25 per person. Another sellout crowd is expected.

Nominations are now being sought for this year’s class of inductees. Candidates for induction must have a minimum of twenty years of combined experience as a high school, college or amateur all-star caliber athlete, youth, high school and/or college coach, game official and sports administrator. The committee is still looking for nominations from Portville, Ellicottville, Randolph, Salamanca, Hinsdale, Allegany-Limestone and West Valley.

The deadline for nominations is Feb. 1. All nominations can be sent to Mark Benton, banquet chairman at hidibenton@gmail.com or call 532-4053.

Softball umpires rules classes begin Jan. 29

The Chautauqua County Softball Umpires Association has announced the formation of a rules instruction class for anyone interested in umpiring high school softball games. Classes will be held at Cassadaga Valley Central School from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday evenings beginning Jan. 29 for a period of five weeks. Interested candidates should contact Todd Button at 782-2268 or Paul Mathers at 640-4859 for additional information.

Forestville alumni basketball game Feb. 1

There will be a Forestville High School alumni basketball game on Saturday, Feb. 1 at Forestville High School. Doors open at 5 p.m. with the boys game starting at 6 p.m. At halftime of the boys game, the girls will play half of a game. There will be a free-throw competition afterwards for all participants.
