CCHA All-Star Game

The Chautauqua County Hockey Association held its first ever All-Star Game, last Sunday at the Cattaraugus Community Center in Irving. There were 40 players recognized across the 11 teams in the league. The A League game featured 10 players aside captained by Mike Nelson (Dark Team) and Justin Giles (White Team). It was the White Team that came out victorious with a score of 6-3. Goals for White came from Kevin Salemi (2), Justin Giles (2), Kaine Hidy and Mike Szalkowski. Justin Giles added two assists, while Kaine Hidy and Mike Szalkowski each had one. AJ Riforgiat picked up the win in goal for White. For the Dark Team, Ian Clement picked up two goals while Mike Nelson added one. Assists came from Mike Nelson with two and Brian Wojcinski with one. Chris Buerkle was in net for Dark.

In the B League game, teams were captained by Tom Block (White Team) and Keith Mages (Dark Team). It was the Dark Team that won convincingly with a final score of 8-2. Jeff Jamieson led the way for Dark earning the hat-trick and game MVP, while Adam Woelfle picked up two goals, while Joe Dunn, Dave Silagyi and Dan Gornikiewicz each added one. Dave Silagyi had three assists, Adam Woelfle and Joe Dunn each had two, and Keith Mages added one. Brian Lillie earned the win in net. For the White team, Glenn Giles and Tom Wilson had the goals while Chris Paluch pick up one assist. Nate Williams was in net for White.

Dunkirk Little League registration underway

The Dunkirk Little League will hold registration for the up coming season on Thursday, Feb. 27 and Thursday, March 5, all from 5-8 p.m. Registration will be held at the American Legion Post 62 at 211 Central Ave. It is for kids ages 4-16 who wish to play baseball and softball. Registration fee is $40 per child and capped at $110 for three or more per family. Original birth certificates are required for new players. For more information, go to the league’s Facebook page or call President Gary Haase at 679-6929. All returning players must signup.

Women’s Doubles Bowling Tourney this weekend

The fifth annual Women’s Doubles Handicap Tournament is scheduled to be held at Lucky Lanes in Fredonia on Saturday, Feb. 29 and Sunday, March 1. Shifts are available at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday; 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Sunday. Applications are available at Lucky Lanes, K&L Lanes, Hanover Lanes, and Chick’s Lanes, and on the association website dunkirklakeshoreusbc.com.

The tournament is USBC certified and conducted by the Dunkirk Lakeshore Bowling Association. It is open to all women who are current members of both the USBC and the association. Text or call tournament manager JoAnne Arnold at (716) 665-9608 to reserve your spot! Walk-in entries are also welcome.

NCSA/Concord FC seeks 19U boys players

Concord FC is looking for soccer players interested in joining a 19U boys team. The 19U team is comprised of 19U age players with a year of birth of 2001 and 18U age players with a year of birth of 2002. Concord FC plays in the Buffalo and Western New York Junior Soccer League, with the games beginning May 29 and ending first week of August. 19U plays Wednesday nights at 6:45 p.m. Their home field is the State University at Fredonia’s Turf Field. NCCYHA Steelers Modified Team seeks players

The NCCYHA Steelers organization is seeking current 7th and 8th grade students living in Northern Chautauqua County who are interested in playing modified hockey. Tryouts to occur the first week of March, with the season running into June. Cost varies based on number of players and should fall between $350 to $500. USSF soccer referee course set for March 7

There will be a USSF entry level soccer referee course held Saturday, March 7 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Frewsburg SC Training Center, located at 31 Hughes Ave., Jamestown.

With this certification, new referees will be able to officiate nearly any level in any league available in the Southern Tier. The course consists of five hours of online training, followed by eight hours of classroom/field training. The cost is $75 for the class and includes state and national dues.

This class is for anyone at least 13 years old at the time of registration. It’s a hands-on class which provides an insightful way to look at the game.

Lake Shore 3-on-3 basketball tourney is March 7

The Lake Shore High School Academy of Business and Finance will be sponsoring its annual 3-on-3 basketball tournament on Saturday, March 7. The double elimination tournament will be held at the Lake Shore High School gymnasium, 959 Beach Road, Angola with staggered start times beginning at 8 a.m. and ending at 5 p.m.

Registration fees are $140 for four person adult teams, $100 for four person high school teams and $60 for four person youth (9-12 year old) and middle school teams. The registration fee includes an event jersey for each player. Brackets include Open Men, Open Women, High School Boys, High School Girls, Middle School Boys, Middle School Girls, Youth Boys and Youth Girls. The Academy will also be hosting a chicken barbecue during the tournament — the cost is $10 per meal. Meals may be prepurchased — information is available with registration information on the District’s web site listed above. Basket drawings will also be held. Proceeds of the events benefit the Lake Shore Academy Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization. Cattaraugus County Sports Hall of Fame to induct 10 on March 28

The 18th Annual Cattaraugus County Sports Hall of Fame banquet will be held on Saturday, March 28 at the Cattaraugus Firemen’s Club in Cattaraugus beginning at 6 p.m. This year class of inductees have been selected and include: Gary “Pizza” Peters (Gowanda), Chuck Howard (South Dayton), John Zalewski (Salamanca), Juliann Fair (Hinsdale), Matt Sanders (Cattaraugus-Little Valley), Allan Dunlap (Franklinville), Frank Asquith (Pioneer), Tammy Putt (Allegany-Limestone), Larry Welty (Portville) and William Aiello (Olean).

A limited number of tickets for the banquet at $25 apiece are available and can be reserved by calling Mark Benton at 532-4053 or email hidibenton@gmail.com. Another sellout crowd is expected.
