Dunkirk Little League registration today, Sunday

Dunkirk Little League will hold two more registrations for the up coming season. Dates are as follows: Thursday, March 5, 5-8 p.m. and Sunday, March 8, 1-3 p.m., both to be held at the American Legion 211 Central Ave. This is for all ages 4-16 boys and girls. All returning players must register. All new players must bring a birth certificate. Any questions please call President Gary Haase at 679-6929.

USSF soccer referee course set for Saturday

There will be a USSF entry level soccer referee course held Saturday, March 7 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Frewsburg SC Training Center, located at 31 Hughes Ave., Jamestown.

With this certification, new referees will be able to officiate nearly any level in any league available in the Southern Tier. The course consists of five hours of online training, followed by eight hours of classroom/field training. The cost is $75 for the class and includes state and national dues.

This class is for anyone at least 13 years old at the time of registration. It’s a hands-on class which provides an insightful way to look at the game.

Lake Shore 3-on-3 basketball tourney is Saturday

The Lake Shore High School Academy of Business and Finance will be sponsoring its annual 3-on-3 basketball tournament on Saturday, March 7. The double elimination tournament will be held at the Lake Shore High School gymnasium, 959 Beach Road, Angola with staggered start times beginning at 8 a.m. and ending at 5 p.m.

Registration fees are $140 for four person adult teams, $100 for four person high school teams and $60 for four person youth (9-12 year old) and middle school teams. The registration fee includes an event jersey for each player. Brackets include Open Men, Open Women, High School Boys, High School Girls, Middle School Boys, Middle School Girls, Youth Boys and Youth Girls. The Academy will also be hosting a chicken barbecue during the tournament — the cost is $10 per meal. Meals may be prepurchased — information is available with registration information on the District’s web site listed above. Basket drawings will also be held. Proceeds of the events benefit the Lake Shore Academy Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization. Catt. County Sports HOF induction is March 28

The 18th Annual Cattaraugus County Sports Hall of Fame banquet will be held on Saturday, March 28 at the Cattaraugus Firemen’s Club in Cattaraugus beginning at 6 p.m. This year class of inductees have been selected and include: Gary “Pizza” Peters (Gowanda), Chuck Howard (South Dayton), John Zalewski (Salamanca), Juliann Fair (Hinsdale), Matt Sanders (Cattaraugus-Little Valley), Allan Dunlap (Franklinville), Frank Asquith (Pioneer), Tammy Putt (Allegany-Limestone), Larry Welty (Portville) and William Aiello (Olean).

Football official classes March 30 in Jamestown

The Southwestern Chapter of Certified Football Officials will be holding its new member classes starting on March 30. The classes will be held at the Ira Lou Spring Legion on Washington St., Jamestown. The classes start at 6 p.m. and end around 8 p.m. each week, for three weeks. You will be able to officiate youth, modified, junior varstity and varsity high school football upon completion of the course.

Chicken BBQ fundraiser for Black Knights baseball

The Silver Creek-Forestville Baseball Boosters are hosting a Chicken BBQ to raise funds for the Silver Creek Forestville baseball teams on Sunday, April 5 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Firehouse on the Lake, Jackson Street, Silver Creek. A basket raffle & 50.50 are planned. Meal includes chicken, sides & dessert. Eat in or take out. A limited amount of tickets available; $10 presale or $11 at the door. Another 50K coming to Cassadaga in August

The Frickin’ Hot 50K is in the works for Cassadaga.

On Aug. 8 at 8 a.m., the 50K will kick-off, welcoming runners and walkers to meander around the lake. Participants have the choice of whether they want to do 10 laps or not, but they will be able to take a dip in the lake between laps.

The organizers are still working with the Cassadaga Village Board for a beer “zone” to be available for runners after their laps.
