“The team is excited for Sectionals and getting everyone healthy and ready to compete,” Dunkirk coach Ray Graf said.

The Lady Marauders also performed well on Day 2. Emilee Hanlon took second in the 100, third in the 200 and fourth in the high jump.

Savia Moreland won the 100 hurdles, while the 4×100 team of Moreland, Sam Hemenger, Petrella and Hanlon took first place.

“Just as predicted, it was a very hot day,” Dunkirk coach Adam Woelfle said. “It’s been tough with not having temperatures like this to even practice in to get the athletes used to it. But I have to say they all toughed it out and did well. Again, I’m very proud and impressed of what these girls accomplished this season, and hopefully for some it’s still not over.”

For Fredonia, the 4×100 relay team took second place behind Dunkirk with a time of :45.46. The team consisted of AJ Amatuzzo, Joell Colon, Roger DeJesus and Jovany Ruiz.

Ruiz took second in the 400 hurdles at :57.57 and fifth in the 100 at :11.59. DeJesus placed fourth in the 200 with a season-best time of :23.77. He also took sixth in the 100 at :11.63.

Diego Rey also recorded a season-best time as he finished sixth in the 1,600 at 4:52.62. He also placed ninth in the 3,000 steeplechase at 11:39.68.

And in the 3,200, Wil Schrantz placed 16th at 11:40.10.

“The heat played a factor, but we hydrated well,” Fredonia coach Bob Ball said. “The 4×100 relay was seeded second and that’s where we finished. Jovany was seeded first in the 400 hurdles. His steps were a bit off. We will go over form and technique this week before Sectionals.”

The Sectional meet will be held next Friday and Saturday at Pioneer High School.

Starting at $3.50/week.
