Hillbillies win 9 matches by fall, top Trojans, 64-24

OBSERVER Phot by Mary Ann Wiberg Fredonia’s Brandon Wallace, top, competes against Southwestern’s Joe Morse at 126 pounds, during their CCAA Division I wrestling meet at Fredonia High School. Wallace won by major decision, 9-1.

Fredonia (2-0, 1-0) won all but three matches Wednesday afternoon, as it cruised to a 64-24 CCAA Division I wrestling win over Southwestern (0-3).

Dalton Gardner (120 pounds), Giovani Russo (132), Jin Kim (138), Hector Colom (145), Ceric Kristen (152), Jordan Stebbins (182), Jack Storm (195), Jake Skinner (220) and Jamison Horch (285) all won by pin while Brandon Wallace (126) won by major decision, as the Hillbillies cruised to victory over the Trojans.

“I was real pleased with our young team,” Fredonia head coach Joe Santili said. “We had some guys step in and we got a real nice win from Jin Kim. He had a scrappy match, he got a pin for us and got us rolling.”

After the Trojans won the first two matches by forfeit — Garrett Swan at 99 and Pat Kelly at 106 — the Hillbillies took the next seven matches, as Antonio Pagan won by forfeit at 113, before Gardner pinned Jaidon Slagle in 1:32, Wallace won 9-1 over Joe Morse, Russo pinned Gaven Dewey in 1:46, Kim took down Dagon Bryant in 2:35, Colom won in 1:02 over Matt Lowery and Kristen pinned Cy Herb in 1:47.

“Ceric at 152 is an eighth grader,” Santili noted. “He’s doing well for us and two freshman, Skinner and Storm, did a good job for us, as bot got pins. That was good to see. They were wrestling fearlessly.”

Zach Johnson broke up the win streak taking the match at 160 by forfeit while Guiseppe Hoose was the only Trojan to earn a victory on the mat, as he pinned Alex Christy in 1:16 in the match at 170.

Fredonia won the final four matches, all by pin, as Stebbins topped Tate Bryant in 14 seconds, Storm took down Michael Hinsdale in 3:20, Skinner won in 2:29 and Horch beat Carter Bolk in 15 seconds.

The Hillbillies are back in action today at 5:30 at Chautauqua Lake.
