SILVER CREEK — The Fredonia Hillbillies were up on the Silver Creek Black Knights 1-0 on Wednesday after 2 -1/2 innings before the sky opened up on their CCAA West 1 baseball game.

The lone run came in the top of the second inning when Seth Schrader led off with a single up the middle. Cole Tippens bunted Schrader over to second while Schrader took advantage of no fielders at third base to move up another 90 feet. Trey Swartz then hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Schrader.

Derek Walters pitched two innings for Fredonia giving up only a walk. Tom Galfo pitched well for Silver Creek, as he allowed four singles and one run over the game’s first three innings.

The game will be continued at a date yet to be determined.

Dunkirk 6, Falconer 4, 6 innings

FALCONER — AJ Morales and Elwin Gomez provided the clutch hits Wednesday while Tyreek Buchanan-Ruiz tossed six effective innings, as Dunkirk topped Falconer, 6-4, in CCAA West 1 baseball action at Falconer High School.

Dunkirk scored a run in the first on an RBI fielder’s choice off the bat of Devaun Farnham-DeJesus, before Morales delivered a two-out, two-run run double in the third to push the Marauders’ lead to 3-0. Then, in the fourth, Elwin Gomez led the frame off with a solo home run while in the fifth, Morales had an RBI single and Gomez added a two-run double.

“AJ was a clutch hitter with a couple two-out base hits,” Dunkirk head coach Frank Jagoda said. “And Elwin’s home run was a blast.”

Buchanan-Ruiz went all six innings — the game was called with one out in the bottom of the seventh due to rain — allowed four runs on three hits, struck out 10 and walked one.

“From the second through the fifth, he retired 12 in a row,” Jagoda said. “Falconer scored four in the sixth on a couple of miscues and a couple of hits, but other than that, he was in total control. It’s his second outstanding performance in a row.”

Gomez finished with two hits, including his home run, and two three RBIs while Morales (double) had two hits and as many RBIs.

Dunkirk is back in action on Friday at CCAA West 1 foe Maple Grove.
