Pawling advanced out of the losers’ bracket into the championship round of the double-elimination New York State Minor League Softball Tournament hosted by Dunkirk Little League with a 2-0 win Saturday afternoon over the East Meadow Fillies.

Mckaela Mammola tossed a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts and had two hits offensively for Pawling, the Section 2 champs, who’ll take on the unbeaten Ozone Howard Bulldogs of Section 3 at 11 a.m. Sunday on the Joe Karnes Field. If Pawling wins, the if-necessary game will begin 30 minutes after the end of the first game.

Lyndsey Cole had a clutch RBI for Pawling off Julia Parise of East Meadow, who struck out six and allowed just the two hits to Mammola. Charlotte Viola, Kayla Wakely, and Alexa Markowitz each had one hit for the Fillies. Both teams played solid defensively.

In the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader, East Meadow eliminated the Massapequa International Chiefs, 5-0, behind Viola’s three-hit, 10-strikeout pitching. Giana Cavazza led the winners with a double and an RBI, Parise had a double and Viola and Kaitlynn Lindow each had a single for the Fillies.

For the Chiefs, Lauren O’Brien had two hits and Sam Dodick one hit. Mikayla Buckley was the losing pitcher.
