CV boys open league schedule with win

SINCLAIRVILLE — Levi Moore scored eight of his team-high 14 points in the fourth quarter and overtime as Cassadaga Valley opened the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 West schedule with a 59-56 victory over Clymer on Monday evening.

Zavon Overton hit a 3-pointer to give the Pirates the lead late in regulation, but Moore made his only 3-pointer of the game with five seconds left to tie things up.

In overtime, the Cougars (4-3, 1-0) got out front on Connor Crabtree’s lay-in before making 5-of-9 free throws to put the game away.

Adam Goot scored 5 of his 13 points in the fourth quarter to help Cassadaga Valley stay close. Crabtree grabbed 12 rebounds and Goot had eight while David Peterson handed out five assists and Crabtree blocked five shots.

Overton led the Pirates (3-3, 0-1) with 16 points while Jordan Wade scored 12. Gerrit Hinsdale grabbed six rebounds and Lucas Willink had four.



PANAMA — Dominic Spontaneo hit two key 3-pointers in overtime to give Panama a 65-62 victory over Brocton in the Division 2 West opener for both teams.

Brocton was up 57-52 with 30 seconds left in regulation, but a Panthers’ 3-pointer and Carter Morse’s two free throws sent the game into overtime.

Spontaeo made his first 3-pointer with two minutes left in overtime and made his second with a minute left for Panama (2-4, 1-0).

Spontaneo led the Panthers with 18 points on six 3-pointers followed by Jack Sperry with 13 points. Cameron Barmore had 17 rebounds and six assists to go along with 8 points.

Bubba Brown was high for Brocton (0-4, 0-1) with 25 points and Riley Rivera added 10 points.
