Feldman finishes 4th in 2017-18 return

KENT, Ohio — Brittany Feldman returned to the track Saturday for the first time since competing last May at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championship meet.

Feldman, a senior, was fourth in the 400 meters in a field of 14 women at the Kent State Golden Flash Gala with a time of 58.44 seconds. She finished 1.43 seconds behind the event winner. Her best time in the event, 55.39 seconds, came in the NCAA outdoor track May 27, to finish seventh in Division III.

Also running the lead leg in the 4-by-400 meter relay, Feldman combined with freshman Sarah Buckley, Alexis Ramirez, and junior Emily Maguire for a time of 4:30.75.

The next top finishers among Blue Devils were senior Kristen Sawyer, fourth in the pole vault (10 feet-8.75 inches); and senior Sarah Couperus, seventh in both the high jump (5-feet-3 inches) and the triple jump (35 feet-5.75 inches).

Overall, Fredonia had women entered in 10 track and five field events at the two-day meet.

MEN’S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD

Mostly a ‘field’ day for Devils at Kent meet

KENT, Ohio – Fredonia men competed in six field events, plus the heptathlon, during the two-day Kent State Golden Flash Gala which concluded Saturday.

The pole vault was split into seeded and unseeded competitions. Justyn Haines a senior, cleared 14-feet-6 inches to finish six of seven men in the seeded portion. In the unseeded portion, junior Trent Howard was second out of 10 competitors at 14 feet.

The next closest-to-the-top performance came from senior Rocky Caparro, who was fourth in the triple jump (45-feet-8 inches).

Fredonia’s lone multi-eventer was senior Mitchel Paciga. He accumulated 4,025 points in the seven events.

The Blue Devils also entered runners in three track events — the 300 meters; the 3,000 meters; and the 4×400 meter relay.
