Panama edges PV in boys’ hoops

In a game of runs, Panama finished on top, defeating Pine Valley, 55-51, on Wednesday in a non-league boys high school basketball matchup.

Pine Valley (2-2) started the game on a 10-0 run, before Panama (3-4, 1-0) was able to answer with a 15-3 run of its own to take the lead. The teams would exchange the lead multiple times throughout the game, as the score remained close throughout.

“Pine Valley is a very physical team,” said Panama coach Ed Nelson. “It was a close, tough game the whole way.”

Panama was led in scoring by Jack Sperry and Cameron Barmore, each with 14 points on the night. Barmore also added 11 rebounds and three steals, while Tom Delahoy also had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Pine Valley’s leading scorer on the night was Zach Mansfield with 11 points, while Stephan Crisanti added 10 points with six rebounds.

Panama will be in action again tonight when they travel to Frewsburg.

“Coach Tom Nelson does a great job (at Frewsburg) and they have a good big man in (Quinn) Conlan,” said Nelson. “That will be a tough one.”
