Pine Valley tops Salamanca on Mansfield three-pointer

SOUTH DAYTON — Zach Mansfield drained a three-pointer with three seconds left to give Pine Valley (2-1) a dramatic 50-47 win over Salamanca (1-3) Tuesday in a non-league high school boys basketball game.

“It was close the whole way. I don’t know how many times the lead changed,” Panthers coach Chris Buczek said. “(Salamanca’s) Isaac Brown hit a three late in the fourth quarter off a missed three to tie it at 47. We each had an empty possession… then we ran an out-of-bounds play to Zach, he dribbled under pressure and basically threw it up.”

The game-winner was one of Mansfield’s three makes from beyond the arc; he finished with 15 points, six assists and four steals. Pine Valley’s leading scorer was Trent Mihalko, with 17 points. Stephen Crisanti had nine points and eight rebounds for the Panthers.

Salamanca was led by Hercules Rash’s 16 points and the nine-point effort of Brown.

Pine Valley is back on the court today in Panama.
