‘Beat The Champ’ dates announced
Special to the OBSERVER
CLARENCE — Chris Musial, president and general manager of WBBZ-TV, is proud to announce that “Beat The Champ” will travel to Lucky Lanes, 10387 Bennett Road in Fredonia, for upcoming bowling broadcasts.
The final day the general public can come out to qualify is Sunday, March 25 at noon, 2, and 4 p.m. with the top 24 bowlers in a roll-off at 7p.m. If you make the cut, you must be able to bowl on Wednesday, March 28, when the WBBZ-TV crew will record four episodes.
The weekly bowling competition will include interviews with owner Paul Nocek, who continues to make Lucky Lanes an important part of the community through bowling and events.
The “Beat The Champ” episodes from Lucky Lanes will air the weekends of March 31, April 7, 14, and 21. “Beat The Champ” airs every Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. with an encore Sunday night at 11 p.m.
“Beat The Champ” originally aired for decades on Channel 4 with legendary hosts Chuck Healy and Van Miller. While it has not been seen for close to 20 years, the competition remains one of the longest running bowling programs on television.
These special editions of “Beat The Champ” will be co-hosted by Paul Peck. The veteran sportscaster creates content for BuffaloSportsPage.com, with a weekly radio show on WECK. Greater Buffalo USBC Association Hall of Fame bowler Sue Nawojski joins Peck at the broadcast desk. Janelle Sabin keeps the numbers on the Castilone Jeep, Chrysler, Plymouth Scoreboard.
Interested bowlers can go to the “Beat The Champ” Facebook page or www.wbbz.tv for more information.
