Fredonia loses 14-2

OBSERVER Staff Report

A day after a 23-0 defeat of Maple Grove, the Fredonia Hillbillies fell to Harbor Creek, Pa. in a non-league high school baseball game, 14-2, at Fredonia High School on Saturday.

Fredonia (1-1, 1-0) used five different pitchers on the day, beginning with Reid Tarnowski, who allowed a run in the first inning. Trey Swartz also pitched in his second game in a row for the Hillbillies. All in all, Fredonia’s pitchers gave up 16 hits on the day.

“They were very good,” said Fredonia coach Vince Gullo. “They capitalized on every mistake we made.”

Fredonia had three hitters with multi-hit games, led by Seth Schrader’s two doubles. Ryan Mroczka and Anthony Gullo also added two hits for the Hillbillies.

“We’re not too concerned with wins and losses this early in the season,” said Gullo, who said a similar comment after the 23-0 win the previous day. “We’re just glad to get outside and play.”

Fredonia plays a league game next, on Monday, against Falconer.
