Falconer bases-loaded walk beats Dunkirk

FALCONER — Nick Saeger walked with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning Thursday to give Falconer a 7-6 CCAA West 1 win over Dunkirk.

Tylar Olson singled to start off the winning rallly followed by a walk to Ben Bloomquist before Gage Lindell reached on an error to fill the bases. Saeger then drew his walk to for in the winning run for the Golden Falcons (3-8, 3-7).

The Marauders (4-11, 3-8) had tied it up with three runs in the top of the seventh inning.

Nate Abbey stroked two doubles and Bobby Samuelson had two singles while Bloomquist picked up two hits, including a two-run double for Falconer.

Danny Williams had a two-run double and a single for Dunkirk.

Tristan Skelly had his first career start on the mound for Dunkirk and pitched into the fifth inning. “He did a real good job getting ground ball after ground ball,” Marauders coach Frank Jagoda said. “He was very composed for his first start and that was very encouraging to see.”

CASSADAGA VALLEY 11, WESTFIELD 7

WESTFIELD — The Cassadaga Valley Cougars claimed victory over the Westfield Wolverines in CCAA West 2 play Thursday night.

David Peterson picked up the win for the Cougars by throwing six and two thirds innings while sitting down four via the strikeout.

The game was tight until the fourth inning when a couple of hits and a couple of errors plagued the Wolverines and Cassadaga Valley was able to strike for four runs.

Connor Crabtree had two hits for the Cougars while teammate Adam Goot stashed two hits of his own to go along with an RBI and two runs scored.

Brady Nusom took the loss for the Wolverines, but threw a nice five innings tallying three strikeouts. Colby Bills led Westfield offensively, as he collected two hits while driving home his first homerun of the year. Bret Babcock also picked up two hits for the Wolverines.

Westfield was able to come on towards the end of the game, collecting three runs in the sixth inning and three more in the seventh before Cassadaga Valley recorded the final out with the bases loaded in the final frame.

“We have five games next week so hopefully we’re going to put together a run here,” said Westfield coach Dan Martin.

Westfield(4-6) will travel to Clymer to take on the Pirates for their final league game of the 2018 season.

LAKE SHORE 10, IROQUOIS 5

IROQUOIS–The Lake Shore Eagles baseball team continued its ECIC Division 3 dominance Thursday night by delivering a victory over Iroquois.

Lake Shore (10-0) has now clinched its division, with still two games remaining on the schedule before the end of the season.

Nate Lockwood went six and one thirds innings with six strikeouts before having to be relieved because of pitch count, but his innings were more than enough to give the Eagles victory.

“It was nice to get a win on this Iroquois field,” said Lake Shore head coach Bob Kowal.

Jon Wilson was a catalyst for the Eagles, going four for five with five RBIs. Wilson is having a phenomenal season, as he has now knocked in an astounding 25 runs in just ten games.

The Kwilos brothers, Jackson and Spencer, also had big games as the pair combined for six hits throughout the evening. Catcher Ryan Utley smacked a triple to contribute to the big offensive night for the Eagles.

Lake Shore plays Iroquois again this Saturday, this time at home.
