CCAA West 2 All-Stars named

The Brocton Bulldogs had a magical run to the state championships in 2018. As a result, it should come as no shock that many Bulldogs filled the league honors when the CCAA Division 2 West All Stars were announced.

Brocton junior starting pitcher Ronald “Bubba” Brown was named the division’s Most Valuable Player for his contributions on the mound and at the plate for the Bulldogs. Brown finished 5-0 in league play with a 1.89 earned run average and only allowing just over one batter per inning to reach base per inning on average. Offensively, Brown had a .296 batting average with a .625 slugging percentage in league play. Brown showed off his offensive talent in the team’s first playoff game of the year, as he hit a home run against Sherman, a team Brocton swept in the regular season, as well.

Brocton’s perfect league record of 10-0 on the season spotlighted the leadership and guidance of co-coaches Joe Dunn and Ray Rosas, who stepped in to lead the Bulldogs at the beginning of the season. The two were named as Co-Coach of the Year recipients for Division 2 West.

In addition to Brown, three other Brocton Bulldogs were named to the division’s First Team. Junior catcher Jordan Krystofiak, senior Charlie Rexford and senior Hunter Rizzo were all named to the First Team. Second baseman Derrick Burns, senior Gabe Rosas and junior Riley Rivera were all named to the Second Team, while Nate San George, Caleb Chelton, Gabe Morello and Michael Steward were all Honorable Mention.

In the first year with Dan Martin as head coach, the Westfield Wolverines were also honored in the league awards. Junior Bret Babcock was named to the First Team, while Michael Johnson and Dylan Scriven were named to the Second Team. Colby Bills, Brady Nusom and Luke Kawski were all Honorable Mention.

Cassadaga Valley also had a few highlights named to the league honors, as well. A trio of Cougars — Connor Crabtree, Chase McIntyre and Adam Goot — were all named to the division’s First Team. Three more Cougars — Brandon Rodriguez, Anthony Rodriguez and David Peterson — were all chosen to the Second Team, while Gerald Carr and Braden LeBaron made the Honorable Mention.
