Fredonia’s Rey finishes 2nd at sectional meet

NIAGARA FALLS — The Fredonia Hillbillies high school boys track and field team competed at the Section VI championship meet on Saturday at Niagara Falls High School.

Fredonia’s Diego Rey highlighted the Hillbillies’ day, with a second place finish in the 1600 with a time of 4:31.54. Four others finished in the top 10 in individual events, along with a pair of top 10 finishes in relay events.

Rian Budzinski finished seventh in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:00.34. Joell Colon, Joshua Johnson and Jake Guerra all finished in nineth place in their respective events. Colon finished the 200 with a time of 23.63, while Johnson ran the 3200 in 10:24.49. Guerra placed in the shot put with a throw of 41’6″.

Colon, Dyress Batten, Andrew Field and Andrew Kennedy made up a relay team that finished the 4×100 relay in 45.16, good for nineth place. Rey, Johnson, Jack Carlson and Kevin Redfield ran the 4×800 relay in 8:52.26, good for 10th place.

Carlson also took 12th place in the 1600 with a time of 4:47.49, while Johnson took 12th in the 3000 steeplechase with a time of 10:31.08. Hessen Bahgat finished 16th in the pole vault at 10’6″.
