Fredonia, Silver Creek XC girls place in top five

BEMUS POINT — Both Silver Creek and Fredonia high school cross country teams competed in the Red Dragon Invitational on Saturday, and the girls teams each finished in the top five. Silver Creek placed fourth out of 24 teams, while Fredonia was fifth.

The Silver Creek girls were led by Ellie Decker, who finished fifth overall with a time of 20:22. Juliane Flick was second among Silver Creek finishers, 27th overall, with a time of 21:52. Daisy League was 38th overall at 22:23, followed by Melanie Wilson (52nd) 23:05, Julia Kennedy (61st) 23:33, Lily League (63rd) 23:37 and Emma Romanik (65th) 23:48. Silver Creek’s three male finishers were Gabe Rhodes 19:04, Riley Wilson 19:15 and Josh Bunnell 21:23.

The Fredonia girls placed fifth, led by Emily Brown’s 19:52.66. Ashlynn Ambrose ran a 22:19, while Savannah Lashbrook was only a second behind at 22:20.

Fredonia’s Diego Rey finished second among all male runners, with a time of 17:06.71. Rey led Fredonia’s boys team to a ninth place finish. Chris Annear was next for Fredonia in a time of 18:34, while Kevin Redfield ran a 19:23.

“Emily Brown and Diego Rey both had very solid races. They are working extremely hard and have had some excellent workouts so far this season,” said Fredonia coach Tom Stokes.

Both teams are in action again on Tuesday, at Lake Erie State Park.
