Westfield/Brocton tops Pine Valley in girls soccer, 3-1

PINE VALLEY — The Westfield/Brocton Lady Wolverines won another big game on Wednesday, downing the Pine Valley by a score of 3-1.

Westfield/Brocton’s Ella Archer took a feed from Heather Johnston just three minutes into the game to give their team the early lead, and from there they wouldn’t surrender the lead.

“To Pine Valley’s credit they played hard all game,” said Lady Wolverines head coach Neil Huber. “I’m very impressed with where their program is progressing.”

Laura Johnston scored an unassisted goal in the 27th minute, but Pine Valley tried to climb back in it.

Jocelyn Tyma scored a goal on a feed from Julianna Grudzien, chipping into the Westfield/Brocton lead making the score 2-1 going into halftime.

Westfield/Brocton kept applying the pressure all afternoon and eventually would score their third goal — again by Laura Johnston — to give themselves a nice cushion for the remainder of the game. Johnston’s second goal was assisted by McKenzie Wolfe.

Angel Busch was winner in goal for the Lady Wolverines, tallying five saves for her team. Pine Valley’s keeper was Sydney Dahl who made a whopping 22 saves in net for the Panthers.

Westfield/Brocton (3-2, 2-0) will return to the pitch on Friday when they play the high-powered team of Maple Grove.

“Maple Grove is a good team and a well coached team,” said Huber. “The girls are hungry. A lot of these girls are excited for the opportunity, our coaches as well.”

Pine Valley (0-5) will play Cassadaga on Friday, as well.
