MAYVILLE — The Westfield/Brocton Wolverines boys soccer team came away with a victory on Wednesday night, defeating Chautauqua Lake by a score of 4-1.

Westfield/Brocton (2-2) bounced back after a loss on Tuesday in which Southwestern beat them by a score of 6-1.

Wolverine Goalkeeper Mike Johnson came away with two saves on the night as the Thunderbirds were only able to generate three shots the entire night.

Chautauqua Lake’s lone goal was scored first by Isai Saldana in the 21st minute giving the Thunderbirds the early lead. Noah Flurie picked up the assist on that goal, but Westfield responded quickly as Jason Almeter finished off a pass from Josh Heim and Darian Swanson added a second tally before halftime with Almeter earning the assist.

Almeter added a second tally in last 40 minutes of play, while Dylan Skriven scored on a penalty kick in the 77th minute. Erik Peterson made nine saves for Chautauqua Lake in the loss.

Westfield/Brocton will return to the pitch on Saturday when they host Frewsburg at 10 a.m. Chautauqua Lake also will play again at home on Saturday against Cassadaga Valley/Falconer at 10 a.m.
