Fredonia gets past Chaut. Lake, 2-0

MAYVILLE — Fredonia keeps on winning as they topped Chautauqua Lake 2-0, in Section VI girls soccer action on Wednesday.

The Lady ‘Billies battled in a close affair, netting a similar 2-0 victory they saw against the Lady Thunderbirds earlier in the season. Like their game on Monday, Fredonia scored their first goal late in the first half as Emily Timmerman buried a pass from Laural Erick with 53 seconds left before halftime.

Fredonia found an insurance goal late in the second half as Emily Smith sent a laser to the far right side of the net, icing the game for the Lady Hillbillies. The assist came from Caelin Holt. This was Smith’s second consecutive game where she found the back of the net. Kelly Gullo provided a shutout for Fredonia in consecutive games in net, making five important saves against Chautauqua Lake.

“It was nice to see four different names on the stat sheet tonight. We need to do a better job with some things we can control, we could have been sharper on the ball. But at the end of the day we go through another league game with a win,” said Fredonia head coach Brett Gould.

Fredonia improved to 7-5-1 overall and 6-3-1 in the league, they sit in third only behind state ranked Alleghany-Limestone and Olean. The Lady ‘Billies host rival Dunkirk on Friday.

Chautauqua Lake’s record fell to 1-9 overall and they will travel to Olean on Friday.
