CV/F’s Penhollow named Class C South Defensive Player of the Year

The Class C South All-Star football teams were announced on Friday, and with it, many Cassadaga Valley/Falconer and Chautauqua Lake/Westfield players were honored by it.

Cassadaga Valley/Falconer’s Robbie Penhollow was named Defensive Player of the Year in the league, having a stellar season from his strong safety position. Penhollow led the defense with a whopping 111 tackles on the season and was also a huge playmaker forcing three fumbles and collecting two interceptions.

Penhollow was not just a stud on defense, but also offense. The senior running back also tallied 19 touchdowns for the Golden Cougars, and also piled on 1,094 rushing yards and 446 receiving yards in a stellar campaign. Cassadaga Valley/Falconer finished the Class C South in third place with a 4-2 league record before their season was cut short in the opening round of the playoffs to Wilson.

Alongside Penhollow, fellow senior quarterback Connor Crabtree was named to the first team offense. The quarterback was known for his ability to run and pass the football, rushing for five touchdowns and 512 yards while throwing for six touchdowns on 717 yards.

Also up front for the Golden Cougars, offensive lineman Chase Johnson was named to the first team offense and defensive lineman Collin Mower was named to the first team defense. Jordan Dustin who spent time on offense as a receiver, was named to the first team defense as a defensive back.

Cassadaga Valley/Falconer’s wide receiver Nick Saeger, offensive lineman Dylan Hokanson, defensive lineman Brock Johnson and defensive backs Mack Mikula and Noah Abram were all named to the second team.

As for Chautauqua Lake/Westfield, wide receiver Zach Fischer was named to the first team offense, following a productive season in which he caught 25 passes for 490 yards and three touchdowns. Fischer was joined on the first team by defensive lineman Ben Szymanowski and linebacker Austin Bourgeois.

The Thunderbirds finished with a 3-3 league record before losing to eventual Class C champion Cleveland Hill in the first round of the playoffs.

Quarterback Kyler Majka found himself on the second team list after throwing for 686 yards and seven touchdowns on the year. Majka was joined on the second team by lead back Ryan Jafarijan, who rushed for 474 yards and five touchdowns.

Defensive lineman William Sauerland and linebacker Blane Thomas were also added to the second team roster.

The Class C South was won by Southwestern and Trojan quarterback Cole Snyder took home Player of the Year honors after throwing 37 touchdown passes.
