Fredonia cruises to their first win of year, 45-31

The Fredonia Lady Hillbillies traveled to Alleghany-Limestone high school for the Alleghany tournament. The Lady ‘Billies took on Genesee Valley (1-1) of Section V and showed them how it’s done in Section VI by charging to a dominant 45-31 victory.

Fredonia (1-1) responded well after dropping their first game of the season to St. Mary’s, their defense came out ready and motivated to play.

“We started off very hot, the score was 26-0 before they scored their first points,” said Fredonia coach Mark Putney. “We kind of cruised to victory after that.”

Fredonia’s offense was led by Kazlin Beers with 13 points and Nagely Vazquez provided seven. Both Kelly Gullo and Sam Tabone hit two 3-pointers for the Lady ‘Billies. However, it was not the Lady ‘Billies offense which was on full display as their defense was lights out for most of the game.

“I felt our pressure defense really did well,” said coach Putney. “The girls just settled in and did a nice job running through our set. I was really proud of them.”

The Lady Jaguars effort was led by the Bennett twins, Mackenzie scored 11 and Bailey provided eight.

Fredonia will play Alleghany-Limestone in the tournament final on Saturday at 1:30 p.m., there will also be a dedication to the late Frank Martin between the girls and boys championship games.
