OBSERVER Staff Report
LACKAWANNA — Silver Creek Black Knights head coach Rob Genco got a big win over his brother Don’s Eden Raiders on Saturday, with a 64-39 win over Eden at the Global Concepts boys basketball tournament.
After a 23-11 first quarter for Silver Creek that featured five 3-pointers for the Black Knights, Silver Creek pulled away by halftime.
Brady Woleben led Silver Creek once again, with 22 points and 14 rebounds. Dominic Jamison and Ammon Jones each had 13 points, while Jones also had six assists. Tucker Gates added five steals for Silver Creek.
Eden’s star senior captain Jared Sobczyk was held to 11 points on the night, despite averaging over 20 points per game coming into Saturday’s contest. Coach Rob Genco said his gameplan early on focused on limiting the effectiveness of Sobczyk.
Silver Creek (6-3) begins its league schedule in the new year, as the Black Knights head to Randolph to take on All-WNY guard Tyler Hind and the Randolph Cardinals on Friday.
“(Hind) is one of the best scorers in Western New York,” said Silver Creek head coach Rob Genco. “They’re a good team and they played a challenging non-league schedule, as we did. It’s going to be a good one.”
